Abandoned Pit Finds Home With Hunky Firemen & We’re So Jealous

By Katie Garrity

Ashley The Pit was neglected and eventually abandoned by her owners. That's when Erica Mahnken, cofounder of No More Pain Rescue, and her fiance Michael Favor, stepped in and rescued the 1-year-old pit bull last year.

Erica received a phone call that a couple was living with Ashley in an abandoned house, but when a huge snowstorm hit, they left town without the dog. And that's when Erica and her husband ran to Ashley's aid.

When they came upon the skinny and hungry pit, she was living in terrible conditions: a freezing house, no food or water, and feces everywhere. Despite the conditions, Ashley greeted them with a wagging tail and no hesitation. She jumped right into their car — more than ready to get out of that house.

Since her rescue, Ashley has been spending her days hanging out with New York's finest — the FDNY! The No More Pain Rescue organization did not have an actual facility to house Ashley, so they needed somewhere for her to be fostered. Thankfully, they had friends in the best places, and the Fort Pitt Fire Station (what a perfect name!) became Ashley's new home.

They entire department fell in love with Ashley and she is now treated to 30 walks a day, meals with her family, and even ride in the fire engines from time to time!
