A Cat Reality TV Show Starring Adoptable Kitties? Yes, Please!
Move over Kim, Khloe and Kourtney, there are some new reality divas in town and they just might be cuter than the three of you.
Icelandic producer Inga Lind Karlsdóttir combined two common pleasures — cats and reality TV — and created something revolutionary: a reality TV show… with cats. And let's be honest, the internet will never have too many cats, because look.
Keeping Up With The Kattarshians features four captivating kitties living in an oversized dollhouse accompanied by hidden cameras (Shh, they don't know we're watching). The series allows viewers to spy on endless feline fun ranging from cat fights to cat naps, and boy — can these cats nap.
Karlsdóttir sat down with Vice's Broadly to reveal the origins of this master class in cuteness. She explains that the idea for the show came from her colleague Þórhallur Gunnarsson and while others initially laughed, her response was, "Let's do this". Classic reply of a true genius, people.
The show was created in partnership with the Icelandic Cat Protection Society, promoting not only voyeurism and kitty joy, but also animal rights and adoption because Icelanders are just awesome like that.
Now one of the warmest and fuzziest (and top-rated) online shows from the frozen country, Keeping Up With The Kattarshians began humbly with four cats. After only one week of airing, the original cast members were all adopted. But do not fear, they are being replaced with more orphan cats and the adorableness will march on!
When you think about it, Keeping Up with The Kattarshians is just as interesting as the web show's inspiration. Lots of cuteness, light on the plot, and imaginary drama for days. And we love it!
