Pregnant Giraffe’s Baby Bump Is SO Inspirational, Social Media Just Can’t

By Kayleigh Roberts

Meet April, the giraffe whose pregnancy is taking over social media.

April is 15-years-old and this pregnancy will bring her fourth calf, which is expected to be about 6 feet tall and weigh 150 pounds at birth, according to park officials.

April's loving partner, Oliver, is 5-years-old, and this will be the bull's first offspring!

Her home, Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, N.Y., set up a live stream where fans could watch her in all her pregnant glory leading up to the big day.

According to _The Washington Post_, some viewers complained to YouTube that the stream featured "sexually explicit" content with nudity, which led to YouTube taking down the live stream on Feb. 23.

Millions had watched the stream before it was taken down and, after the misunderstanding was sorted out and YouTube put the stream back up, even more people tuned in.

People haven't just been watching April though, they've been tweeting about her too (as you do in 2017). Here are some of the best social media reactions to #giraffewatch.

There's been impatience:

There have been helpful suggestions:

And of course, there have been jokes:

Giraffes are typically pregnant for about 15 months. April will naturally raise the calf with weaning expected to take between 6 to 10 months, according to park officials. After the weaning period is over, the calf will move to another facility to start a breeding program.

Officials claim they cannot keep the newborn giraffe at the park because it would "lead to incestuous mating and undermine the genetics of the program and species."

Animal Adventure Park recently announced plans to hold a contest to name the newborn calf shortly after the pregnancy concludes.
