If you've been on Twitter the last few days, then you've surely seen the heartbreaking pictures of the sad dog, Doug, whose owner threw him a Pinterest-worthy dog birthday party that none of his dog friends bothered to show up to.

People reacted to the story with broken hearts and teary eyes, because it's objectively heartbreaking:
But, to people who spend a lot of time on the internet, "Doug" the dog looked very familiar:
So, yeah, it turned out the sad story was a total fake. Yikes. Such yikes. The original poster, @NasMaraj, had even started talking about throwing a makeup party, so the lie had spiraled out of control.

Now that the cat is out of the bag. The tweeter, 17-year-old Nasiir Williams from Atlanta, talked to BuzzFeed News about the ordeal. Apparently it all stemmed, as so many bad ideas do, from boredom — and he admits he never expected to go viral.
"I don't know how long I can keep it up before people find my address and forcefully send gifts," Williams told BuzzFeed. "I feel kinda bad."
People are understandably not happy about how the story played out.
At least Williams put an end to it before people literally started sending gifts or planning a second party?
