Today in living your best life: Bella, a 2-year-old Chihuahua mutt, has learned to climb atop her BFF, Hank, a 10-year-old golden retriever.

And the reason why probably won't surprise you.

Video of the Day

Captioned "Can we just talk about how my dog begs for food?," the viral visual first surfaced on Twitter, where it was quickly sucked into the collective consciousness with a mix of "lol, same"-level enthusiasm and "OMG!"-quality astonishment.

In an interview with BuzzFeed News, Adriana Burkhart, the dogs' human and a junior at Michigan State University, traced the origins of this pupper piggybacking to a problem in want of a solution.

Needing a boost to get on the couch one day, Bella did what any good lifehacker would: She turned the taller Hank into a stepping stool. 😮

Lavished with attention on account of her very impressive trick, Bella took things the next level. #escalation

"I heard Hank walking around the living room, and I looked up, and Bella was just laying on him going from room to room ... My mom and I couldn't believe it ... And we just kind of looked at them and looked at each other in a simultaneous 'What just happened?' kind of moment."

According to Burkart, the behavior is so ingrained that it's now a "common occurrence" whenever the two are together.

But it manifests most strongly when there are eats to be had. And while the small dog-surfing-big dog calculus appears to favor Bella, the yields are mutually beneficial (emphasis ours).

"Whenever we're making food, she uses Hank to get a better vantage point so she can be closer to the counter," said Burkhart. "She's got a pretty good puppy dog eye, so they both end up getting treats whenever that happens."

Reactions on the microblogging platform were multitude.

"Your dogs are perfect", wrote one commenter.

People also said it was relatable AF.

Jokes were turned.

It moved some to argue that humans weren't worthy.

Others remixed the new meme with inspiring quotes.

A faction also coalesced around Frank, the pug lurking in the background. They thought he was the real star.

When prompted, Burkhart had the final word on the duo's unlikely bond, saying that Bella was Hank's "watchful guardian and protector".
