Michael Shinkle (aka Imgur user iburnmyfeelsaway) shared a story about camping with his son that is going viral in the best way. When the father and son arrived at their favorite, secluded camping spot, they realized that for once, they weren't the only ones there. A stray cat was wandering the area.
"It was quite skinny and obviously abandoned," Michael wrote on Imgur.
While he set up camp, his son started bonding with the cat and even tried to catch some fish to feed it (they had only brought enough food for their dinner and breakfast on the short trip).
"He gets a couple bites but no luck so he starts feeding the cat the stale bread we have for the minnow trap," Michael wrote, admitting that at this point, he was getting a little irritated with the cat, who was in his way as he gathered wood and set up the campsite.
Even though they weren't able to catch more food for the cat, Michael and his son ended up feeding it their leftovers from dinner. After that, it wandered away again, but not for long. Here's where the story gets really interesting (and really touching): When the cat came back, she brought her three kittens with her.
The next morning, Michael and his son had much better luck fishing — they caught 13 blue gill and a couple of catfish.
The whole cat family was very well-fed. But don't worry, they don't have to fend for themselves in the woods anymore, even though the camping trip is over.
"Needless to say I have a new momma cat and 3 kittens now living on my back porch," Michael explained on Imgur. Obviously, the father and son took the cat and her babies home with them.
"She's quite a happy cat now. There is no way this cat was not domesticated the way she craves human attention," he wrote.
The Imgur community's response was great. They inspired Michael to get the mother cat checked for a chip and even encouraged him to start a GoFundMe page to help cover the cat and kittens' vet bills (they've currently raise $580).
Michael and his family have decided to adopt the cat and all three kittens, so this story has a very happy ending.
