Chunky Monkey Who Ran A Snack-Theft Syndicate Got So Fat He's Now On A Diet

A chubby monkey who authorities say grew fat after feasting on junk food left behind by tourists has all of us at Cuteness saying, "same."

Bankok wildlife officials tracked and captured an obese macaque who began appearing on the social media feeds of travelers months ago and who locals have nicknamed Uncle Fat, reports the Independent.

What's most impressive about Uncle Fat is that he is a ring leader for a group of subordinate monkeys who bring him food, often stolen from the bags of tourists. Uncle Fat is reported to maintain power by redistributing surplus snacks to younger monkeys.

"He had minions and other monkeys bringing food for him, but he would also re-distribute it," Supakkaran Kaewchot, a veterinarian in charge of the monkey's weight loss, told the Associated Press . "He is now in critical condition where there is a high risk of heart disease and diabetes."

The average macaque weighs 20 pounds, but Uncle Fat is reported to tip the scales at over 60 pounds when he was apprehended, according to the report.

"It was not easy to catch him," Kacha Phukem, the man who led the capture and rescue, told CBS News. "He was the leader of his pack, and when I tried to go in, I had to fight off a flock of them with sticks."

Uncle Fat is currently in custody and quite grumpy now that he is on a diet of vegetables and lean proteins.

Reaction on social media is sympathetic...

...with many people finding Uncle Fat relatable AF.

But most just find it very funny.

Uncle Fat is currently in weight loss recovery. Best of luck, bro!
