31 Instagrams That Prove #SquatYourDog Is The Fitness Trend Of The Summer

It's an internet truism: Never skip leg day.

And now with the popularity of this week's viral fitness craze, #squatyourdogchallenge, we know why.

Patient zero in the head-scratching trend was, according to ABC News, a Texas woman, Alyssa Greene, and her pup, Colonel, an extremely chill, 70-pound golden retriever.

In a video posted to Instagram last month, the duo challenged Greene's 20,000+ followers to "take a video of yourself squatting your dog or pet and tag me in it!"

The responses did not disappoint.

There were small dogs.

As in, small dogs plural and one for each arm. (Hover over to play.)

And BIG dogs.

Like 56 pounds big!

There were also sleepy dogs who fell on the size spectrum somewhere between the two.

There were pups bundled together. (SPOILER: It was cute.)

And pups bundled with kids.

Other highlights included this dog who thought it was a human backpack.

This dog that wasn't at a dog at all.

This husky that rewards his person with a kiss at the end.

Naturally, some of the doggos were a bit nonplussed about their sitch.

If there was a common thread that ran through the dogs, it was snacks.

A number of the pups, it seems, had been rewarded for their cooperation โ€” or coaxed into it โ€” with treats.

But if there was variation between the dogs, so too was there variation between the squats.

Some of them were pretty textbook.

Impressive, most impressive.

But some of the squats were a measure more obscure, the preserve of America's hardcore gym rats.

Like this forward squat. (With a corgi โ€” SQUEEE!)

And these lunging squats. (With a golden โ€” SUPER SQUEE!)

And this overhead press squat.

If there was a prize for flashing the most creative squat, we would it award it to this woman and her very large Great Dane.

(He's basically Nautilus-sized, lol.)

Still, it wouldn't be a social media sensation without at least a couple of fails, amirite?

Not that the one above was for a lack of trying, though.

The same can't really be said of this dog who isn't really much of proper paw-tner (sorry, not sorry).

By any measure, the biggest fail belonged to these cat interlopers who had no business crossing over into space occupied by hashtag hounds.ย ๐Ÿ˜กย ๐Ÿ˜กย ๐Ÿ˜ก
