Posh Pups Raise Money For Animals In Need At The Bark Ball

By Travis Greenwood

While you were scrambling Saturday night to find your dad a last-minute prezzie, fancy D.C. doggos dressed in their most elegant coats (and masks, bow ties, and jewlery) kicked up their heels at the 30th annual Bark Ball.

Organized by the Humane Rescue Alliance, the black-tie gala benefits area shelters and animals with a series of silent and online auctions.

Boasting a program that included dinner, dancing, a reception, and "special surprises", this year's event attracted more than 500 fashion-furward pups and a record-breaking 1,200 humans.

The guest list featured luminaries from the political, media, entertainment, sports, and business worlds, all of whom were dressed and accessorized around a masquerade motif.

Photos shared by attendees on Twitter and Instagram revealed that the bash overflowed with good boys and good girls of all shapes, sizes, and breeds.

And while the spotlight was trained on puppers, cats weren't overlooked entirely.

"It may be called the BARK Ball, but adoptable cats Rodger, Dunky, and Pheona arenโ€™t going to let the pups have all the fun. Plus, we know itโ€™s cats who rule the internet."

Writing on Facebook Saturday night, the organizers announced that Bark Ball raised close to $700,000!

Dubbing the party an "incredible success", officials with the HRA pledged to use the money "to deliver on our ongoing mission to protect animals, support families, and advocate for positive change to create a world where all animals can thrive."
