20 Of The Coolest Pet Names We Saw On Social Media This Month

It's that time, that time of the month when we round up the best pet names on the social web.

From the weird and the wacky, to the ridiculous and the punny, here then are 20 animal cuties with unforgettable pet names pulled from pop culture, food, and points beyond.

1. Bruce Willis

Here's a cat named after the actor Bruce Willis (Die Hardest 42.5) and honestly, I can see the resemblance without even squinting. Behind the sad, sad facade and saucer-eyed woe is a tender cuddlebug, as LoveMeow reports.

2. Mooncake

According to Wikipedia, a mooncake "is a Chinese bakery product traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Typical mooncakes are round pastries, measuring about 10 cm (4 in) in diameter and 3–4 cm (1 1⁄4–1 1⁄2 in) thick, and are commonly eaten in the Southern and Northern Chinese regions. A rich thick filling usually made from red bean or lotus seed paste is surrounded by a thin (2–3 mm) crust and may contain yolks from salted duck eggs. Mooncakes are usually eaten in small wedges accompanied by tea."

Not sure where I'm going with this but now you can't say you haven't learned anything reading this ... so there's that. Also, that cross stitch is on point and its creator should be v. proud.

3. Mr. Tiny Pants

The Tiny part seems obvious. But the pants? Your guess is as good as ours! 🤷‍♂️

4. ThunderCleese Magilicutty

Best guess: This is a Dad Joke that went wrong but morphed into something permanent because it was actually brilliant and LOL-level funny.

5. Baron Rooster von Taternoggin

Yup, I'm not above quoting myself. From our inaugural column: "If brevity bookends one side of the pet name binary, then exaggerated and formal-ish, multiple word embellishments occupy the other. For bonus points, accessorize with an honorific." Bottom line: What was true then is true now.

6. Ratachewy

This one gives us some pause because hey, rats and the circle of life, ugh. On the other hand, we haven't included a danger noodle as yet so that oversight ends TODAY.

7. Morloth

Today in social media snakes looping back on their own tail: This next name was shared with us on the Cuteness [dot] com Facebook page in response to last month's edition of the Coolest Pet Names We Saw On Social Media This Month (henceforth TCPNWSOSMTM, kay?).

"I named my cat Morloth — it's Elvish for 'Dark Flower'. I'm a Tolkien nerd so there really wasn't any other way to go. ^_^".

Mad thanks to everyone that posted up their adorable critters — keep 'em coming for their chance to be featured in a future post!

8. Batata

We've said it before and we'll say it again: Foreign languages are an endless fount of inspiration for creative and unique pet names. Like airplane-eared Batata here, which translates from Arabic into sweet potato.

9. Parking Lot

As we've seen before with common noun pet handles, the name might seem like a non sequitur on the surface but they are understandable when contextualized and the explanation is typically the most obvious one: "She was found in a parking lot, hence the name! I told myself I would just take care of her until I found her a home...turns out I didn't need to, she found her home and I had no say in the matter❤️"

10. Stoplight

On the other hand, the absence of such context isn't a dealbreaker. You be you, Stoplight, this is a judgment-free safe zone.

11. Sam Handwich

That face! O! M! G!

12. Spikenorbit!!

On the virtues of compromise: "I wanted her to be named Spike, my brother wanted Norbit, so we merged the two!"

13. Mademoiselle de Pompompadour

Because fancy French cats deserve fancy French names.

14. TaxiPollo

Let's go straight to the source because they can unpack it better than I: "TaxiPollo means chicken taxi in Spanish. It's the name of a restaurant/taxi service I encountered in Guatemala years ago and I loved the name and decided someday if I had the opportunity to name a cat that would be their name. It suits her because chicken is her fave."

15. Angel Booger

When the name generator combo plate is basically oxymoronic and the picture perfectly compliments it.

16. Zyzzyx

My spell check is so confused right now.

17. Dit Dit

A snippet of Morse code? A homage to a funky cut by an obscure 80's disco band? Some combination of the two? We'll likely never know but we love you all the same, Dit Dit.

18. Beep Beep

Make way, Beep Beep coming thruuuuuuuu!

19. Happy Meal

See beat #9, above: "When my cat had kittens last year she was the only one who looked like her [moms]. We originally called her Junior. My bf came up with Happy Meal bcuz it's the smaller version of the bigger burgers and stuff."

20. Batty White

We end this month's installment of TCPNWSOSMTM as we started it: With an adorable bebe named after a(n even more) beloved Hollywood icon, only in this case the name has been bent around a pun. Because October! And Halloween! And spooky! It's topical, y'all!
