Science Has Figured Out What Dogs Dream About

Kayleigh Roberts

Last week, People did some very important investigative reporting and answered the question of what cats and dogs are dreaming about. They spoke to an expert, Dr. Deirdre Barrett, a teacher and a Clinical and Evolutionary Psychologist at Harvard Medical School, who gave readers tons of insights into animal dreaming, from how animal dreams differ from human dreams to what it means when your dog’s legs shake seemingly-uncontrollably in his sleep. But one answer, regarding what dogs actually dream about really touched the people of the internet.

“Humans dream about the same things they’re interested in by day, though more visually and less logically,” Barrett said. “There’s no reason to think animals are any different. Since dogs are generally extremely attached to their human owners, it’s likely your dog is dreaming of your face, your smell and of pleasing or annoying you.”

So yeah, your dog literally dreams about you. That peacefully joyous expression on their adorable face when they nap? That’s all thanks to you. Those anxious whines they make? Probably the result of a terrible nightmare called “My Owner Just Left for Work and Everything Sucks Now.” You are the center of both their waking and sleeping life.

The news hit pet owners all over the internet right in the feels.
