Video: DIY Yogurt Coating For Dog Treats

When you just don't have the time to whip up a yummy, healthy dog treat from scratch, there's no shame in taking a semi-DIY shortcut. With just four simple ingredients, you can turn your pup's favorite treats into something extra special by enveloping them in a nutritious yogurt coating. Watch our video to see how!

  • - 3 Tablespoons Plain Greek Yogurt
    - 1 - 2 ½  Tablespoons Tapioca Starch (depending on how hard you'd like the coating to dry)
    - 1 Tablespoon Peanut Butter -OR- Blueberry purée
    - ½ Teaspoon Honey
    - Your dog's favorite treats (we used Charlee Bear Blueberry & Bacon Flavored Bear Crunch)

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl until well blended. The more tapioca starch you use, the harder the coating. For a softer coating, use less starch. Keep in mind that if you use too much starch, the coating will take on a chalky texture and taste which your dog may not like. It's best to experiment to see what your pup enjoys the most. You can also omit the starch altogether, but you'll have slow-drying treat. If you choose to do this, you may prefer to cold-set the treats in the freezer rather than dry them out.

  2. Dip your treats in the coating and place them on a piece of parchment or wax paper. Depending on the size of your treats, you can choose to coat the whole treat or just the top surface (this works best for larger biscuits). Drying time depends on how much starch you used, as well as the ambient temperature in your home.

  3. Let air dry. Be patient! It can take a few hours or even overnight. If your dog simply can't wait for a taste and you want them to harden quickly, place them in the freezer for about half an hour. They won't be dry, but you'll be able to cleanly handle them long enough to get into your pup's eager mouth!
