im actually starting to get tamer !!! if anyone tells you hedgies like to be petted ,... DONT BELIEVE them !! it takes a lot of time and patience to get us to "tolerate" you , we are shy , animals that get scared very easy , of anything !! please please please read up all you can about hedgehogs BEFORE you get one if you are thinking about it , we will never be friendly like other animals like rabbits , guineas, hamsters etc . my mum was mislead when she bought me , we hedgies are beautiful and interesting creatures but we take alot of hard work !! saying that she loves me alot and forever !! but i hate her when she gives me baths !!! : )

Hazel is the only girl in the litter, and was the very, very small runt who we thought wouldn't make it the first night. Hazel is still very skinny and small, but she is such a sweetie, but can be a little jumpy sometimes. Hazel loves to be held and is very good around the camera. Out of all of her siblings, Hazel is the one who loves her running wheel the most! She'll run in it all day and night! Hazel loves her birth mom very much, and she is allowed to stay in the same cage with Shaymin. Hazel is very patient, trusting, and can never stay crabby for too long. She looks very much like her mom, with the light quills and light nose, but has a little bit of her father in her face.
Hazel passed away in September of 2012 for unknown causes. The event sent shock through the whole family, and it was a tearful moment to realize that she grew up to look so much like her mother, that for an hour after her death we were looking back at pictures of her and her mother to make sure we knew it was Hazel that passed.
We believe her death was due to genetic reasons, and that she was the runt of her litter with such a young mother. But we know that she did not suffer. And while we did not get to say goodbye, that is enough to be able to let her go. Rest in Peace, sweet little survivor
Shaymin is my first hedgehog. She was adopted with her brother named Tom. At that time we adopted the two though, we thought Shaymin was a he. (never trust the pet store workers!) So, she and Tom accidentally had babies! Three little ones, and boy was it dangerous for her, but boy was it beautiful to be able to take care of a family of such strange and exotic cuties :) She had 2 boys and one girl. We raised them, and a year ago an exotic animal adoption organization took the two boys and their father, Tom in to be re-adopted to new loving families with less hedgehogs :)
Shaymin and her daughter have been living together since she gave birth, and got along very well. However soon enough the little girl, who was the runt, passed away for reasons we thought had to do with her genetic makeup, being that he father was her uncle. There is a memorial page for her on here, little Hazel RIP.
Shaymin is a sweet hedgehog who for most of the daytime likes to sleep in a cozy 4" PBC pipe in her large cage. Grasshoppers and meal worms are her favorite snack as an omnivore, however they must be freeze-dried! Shaymin has been litter trained and therefore lives a quiet life with infrequent cage cleanings and warm baths only when she needs it. She loves to explore sometimes, and so with a human's close watch she can scamper around with as much freedom as she pleases.
I guess you could say she's a retired mother, or at least spoiled to her great delight :) Comment if you'd like, I give you my word that this little soul is as sweet as can be.
I'm Hugo. I'm an African Pygmy hedgehog who came into the family last April. I am six months old. I love curling up and running around the rag but I hate being inside my cage. I'm not really a people-pet, but people love me. They say I'm cute, I say HELL YEAH!
Mr.Prickle is an african pygmy hedgehog. Because hes so stubborn, it took a long time to socialize him, but hes very nice now.
Unfortunately, Luna passed away May 17th, 2009
I call her Luna-Baduna-Jelly-Belly-Donut sometimes
