Dolly is my tiny 6lb. best friend. She's also my "fierce guardian"; if anyone gets too close to me she lets them know it.
She's absolutely beautiful with her long-haired brindle colored coat but her personality and expressive antics make her the star in our household. She's my baby!
I arrived at the barn around the same time as Molly and Milly. Of us three I am the only one currently still at the barn. (Molly - got colic and died), (Milly - retired). I do lessons with beginners as well as pony rides. I can do cross rails only when jumping so I don't do as much as the other ponies at the barn.
First to mention the video, I noticed Dolly doesn't drink enough, so I coax her now with a treat.
So with that said about....
Miss Dolly, as I sometimes call her,was a surprise along with 4 other siblings. We had her mother , Candy and her mate Gabriel, but they hadn't had pups for years. He was hit by a truck and found by the road,VERY SAD -he was a wonderful and beautiful dog.
However, couple years later I noticed that Candy wasn't feeling very well and laying around more than usual. I found her at the edge of the yard in a kind of gully, looking as though she had no intention of ever moving! ! I told my husband (Ex' now) a couple days earlier that she was not well. So when I found her in the dirt I y wondered if she actually could be pregnant. Husband said. "NO WAY she hasn't had pups in years". I felt her stomach and I said, "Seems like it to me". We put her in the garage. Needless to say...."Yes WAY"! two days later. It was Oct..15 2000. Same birthday as my dad.
I WAS VERY HAPPY! My husband wasn't.
We sold the other pups to GOOD homes. Although I wasn't suppose to keep any of them I wanted a dog of my own for the first time in my life. So I just HAD to keep her. There were several names being tossed around in my head, and getting reactions from the family helped. There was Heather, or Holly for example..and then Dolly. She truly had the sweetest face of them all. She was also the smallest...thank goodness! I finally decided on "Dolly" because of her face. AND,because I really like Dolly Parton! I know, ...I know.
And I have been to "Dollywood" after al!. So all said and done...Dolly is the best thing that came out of my marriage! I loved having her with me in that big house, I felt safe.
"Miss Dolly" really has been this "gals best friend"! We've, moved about 4 times the last 8 yrs and having her close ( along with 2 precious cats, one is in a photo) by my side means everything. I deal with a condition that makes it difficult for me to leave my home, being able to take her along makes it sooo much easier! I love looking in the rear view mirror watching her look around...growling at any dog, even on a sidewalk, or me being able to to reach back with a pat and say " I love you Dolly".
Kids will wave, sometimes even adults will acknowledge Dolly at a stop light.
Walking at the beach or park, wherever the elderly, the kids, and all in between,
nine out of ten want to meet Dolly and pet her. She does take off though when little
feet run after her to pet her.
The last couple of years or so have been difficult for her.(and ME!) having a heart condition, intestinal infection,( almost lost her a couple months ago) and arthritis.
I have to keep her weight down to help with all of them. So she gets hungry, but she
does get some treats in-between her meals.
The photo with the elderly woman is my grandmother in Canada. She's 99 in that photo. Nana didn't really like dogs...but naturally, my Dolly won her over as you can see.
Nana is gone now, but I'm glad Dolly gave her some love and had smiling too.
This is only a bit of my sweet Dolly. She loves the ocean and when she realizes where we are she gets excited and wants out NOW! She hops around like a puppy...even now, she just can't help herself! It really brings out the "cuteness factor"!..............more to come if you all can bare to read more! BOL !
I crossed over the Rainbow Bridge July 3,2013. I'm glad Chelsey is still with her cuz she's a real cuddle cutie!
Hi! I'm Dolly. I like to rest on the couch all day.
Dolly AKA Winsor's Magic Gold Dust is a Red and White Parti Cocker. her dad is Ch Point Loma's Magic Mirror AKA Jacob
Dolly was rescued from a house in Georgia, where she had been abandoned by her owner, along with another dog. They had spent their lives tied up outside on a short lead, where they would often get tangled. Her owners moved away and left them there. A kind neighbor got the help of a rescue. Dolly was rescued by a group in Georgia and came up on a transport to Eleventh Hour Rescue, where we began fostering her. Dolly had a very hard beginning to her life and is very scared around most people. It takes her a long time to warm up to anyone. She does love other dogs though and they really bring her out of her shell. She is very sweet. We are working on socializing her more.
