Greetings, pets of Cuteness. My name is Margherita. I have an Italian name because my breed (the gold pencilled Sicilian Buttercup) is well, Sicilian, if you hadn't guessed. I'm a rare breed pullet (young hen), which means I'll hopefully do very well in the poultry shows my mum enters all the time. I haven't been to one yet, but the next is in 2 weeks, so I'm very excited. Sicilian Buttercups are so rare, not many are around anymore, and judges have a soft spot for rare breeds.
I was adopted when my mum's beloved hen Beyonce died - her profile is still here at Cuteness. Pixie and Treacle (the other hens who are also here) needed another friend, so here I am. I wouldn't exactly call them friends yet... Pixie still chases and pecks me, but I get on much better with Treacle, since she is sick, we have grown closer. Because I'm so small it'll take me a while to be fully accepted, but I'll get there.
I haven't laid any eggs yet because I'm young, but when I do they'll be white. I love worms and foraging in the garden, something I couldn't do before I came to my home, because I lived at a breeding centre that kept the chickens inside for protection. I like it much more here.
I'm also very good at flying - well, jumping high with the aid of my wings. I've flown over my 4ft electric fence, over the 6ft hedge and onto next door's car in one go. My mum wasn't very happy about that.
I hope I can make lots of new friends here at Cuteness!
