Now To Tell You a Little About Myself:
My owner's best friends sympathized with the fact that my owner's cat died at the age of 21 (named Daisy). Daisy's sister died just a couple years earlier, since they both had diabetes. Her friend (Daniela) saw a family giving away a litter of kittens, including me! Daniela lives in Maryland, but she flew to California and brought the litter of kitties! My owners played with me and all my sisters. They narrowed it down to me and one of my sissies, a black cat. But they noticed how playful, and adorable (obviously hehe) I was so it was an obvious decision. I watched as my sissies left, but I knew I had 3 new big sisters(Cookies, Cream, and Betty-Boop), plus my favorite roomie (shh..)/best friend, Sherlock! Cream caught a bad sickness that doctors couldnt identify, and she sadly passed away. It was the toughest for Cookies since now she had to be alone (not including betty-boop right next door!) A long while later, Betty-Boop passed away in her sleep :( She was very healthy the night before, but the time had come and now she is playing in the field up there.
Pet Peeves: CARS!!! I dont wanna go to the vet!, Vacuum cleaners! I mean, what's even the use of those "things"?! And really loud noises :( Oh and fleas, ouch.
Stuff I like: FOOD!!!!, mouse toys, hair/yarn, more food :), chasing bugs outside,
I love playing with my roomies and watching the birdies outside :)
Unique Traits: The way I walk and drink they say looks very lady-like and fancy, especially the positions I keep! And since Im still really young, I run around a lot! And when I do, it's really loud, so they call it a "thundering herd of Mittens" MOL!
Hobbies: Chewing up the blanket (can't scratch anything since I was declawed when I was a baby), chasing around Sherlock or the other way around, watching the birds outside, chasing crickets under the stars, running around and causing havoc, etc. :) oh and eating :)
Before I came to my furever home, I was not taken care of properly and was abused by another family. No more details, but I had so many fleas, so many you can't count when I first game to my persons' house..
Thanks for taking the time for reading this! (I know it's really long :))
stay tuned for more ~
hi I'm Mittens, when i was a kitten i was found in a snowbank and my owners got me from the humane society i was a tiny 9-week old kitten with a really long tail that wrapped all the way around my body, i am now a very large cat who weighs around 20lbs,and i am the dominant cat of the household and i was named for my white paws.I'm not a big fan of that pesky little puppy snickers but I'm ok as long as he leaves me alone.my " mate" is cinder the only female cat of the household.and since I'm mister dominant i feel that i can only be petted when it's my idea but I've gotten better at that and letting my family pet me whenever and i also beg for petting now too.
I am a drama queen and used to be a spoiled rotten little cat, sleeping with my owner and staying inside on the hot and cold days and occasionally getting fed cheese and meat. But now I have to stay outside all the time because they think I'll play with a purple tub--which is supposedly important--lying on the floor! Imagine that! Oh you should have seen me when I was younger. My mistress loved me so, and she still does to this day, but she hardly has time for me anymore. She goes away for a long time everyday and comes back hours later. She did that all her life, but I remember she played with me until her father told her to do the work she received that day from wherever she went. Oh the happy days. Where have they gone? I was a mother of 10, but my poor babies were given away to other people. I do miss them. I hope they had good masters and mistresses. How I fret sometimes! My mistress was so sad when she witnessed my babies being given away. I do believe she named one of them Whiteface. My baby was getting a white face, no wonder she named him that! She was especially sad when she gave him away, too. I do hope the last days of my life are spent with her. :3
Hi! :) I enjoy being left alone, sleeping, eating treats, and laying in the window.
Mittens was brought into my household in September 2010.
My then-roommate and I were walking home from getting tea when we noticed a man crouched down on the sidewalk playing with a cat. The cat was medium-sized and orange, my two favorite things, and I stooped down to play with him as well.
We learned that the cat did not belong to the man and that the cat was, in fact, a stray. Given that the weather had been unpredictable as of late, we decided to take the cat in--at least for a few nights, until the storms that had been plaguing Brooklyn decided to slow down.
On our walk home, the cat was incredible docile and friendly. He only tried to escape my arms once, and never bit or scratched or hissed. We noticed on our walk home that this cat had...wait for it...SIX FINGERS including one HUGE THUMB. My roommate and I decided to temporarily name him Jonathan, and we started making "FOUND" posters that night.
The next night, there were tornado warnings all over town. Green-gray skies and sharp claps of thunder. Rain, then hail, pelted our apartment building. "Jonathan" and his step-brother Sid were safe inside.
We put up flyers around our neighborhood and posted an ad on Craigslist. No responses. After a few weeks it looked like we'd be keeping Jonathan, though it would be crowded in our house with both Sid and Baklava (my roommate's cat).
There was some weird gender confusion in which my roommate and I thought Jonathan was actually a girl, so we changed zir name to Mittens (BECAUSE ZE HAD MITTENS, GET IT?!?). However, after we walked in on Mittens satiating Baklava's "in heat" needs, we learned that he was a he. A trip to the vet determined that he was, indeed, fixed, so I guess we dodged the bullet on that one. However, the name "Mittens" (and it's variants...Mitts, Lil' Mitts, Meat-hands, etc.) stuck.
For a while, we thought Mittens had the cat equivalent of Asperger's. He didn't know what to do with emotion, responded oddly to gestures of affection, and wasn't very cuddly. However, as time passed (and when Baklava left the apartment), he became super friendly. He's still a little skittish at times, but has become a total cuddler.
Mittens is very large and only meows when he yawns. He is humorous. He is self-conscious about his mittens, which he hides underneath himself if they are pointed out.
Cutest thing he does: in the morning, when I leave to go to work, he yawn/meows at me. He knows I think this is the cutest thing ever, so I always stop what I'm doing and go pet him. When I try to stop petting him in order to leave, he reaches both his giant mittens around my leg like he's hugging a tree. =)
