American Pit Bull Terrier

I'm the sweetest guy you'll ever meet! I follow you around the house and whimper when I don't know where you are. I LOVE playing fetch and playing in water. Mud is fun!!

I found Sid when I went to check out another kitty at a foster mom's house. While trying to get to know the cat I had originally came for, Sid (then temporarily named Reade) sat on my lap and purred very loudly. He looked like a little kitty loaf, and smiled like a Buddha. He was also an unusual coloring--orange with grey spots. I learned from the foster mom that those patches were supposed to be white: Sid had been found abandoned on a construction site in the Bronx. He had had lung problems and his "grey" fur was actually white, just covered in layers of soot that even the vet had problems removing. I'm a sucker for sob stories and for cats that purr as loud as he does. I knew I could never let him go.

I named him Siddhartha ('cause of his Buddha smile) and brought him home with me in May 2008. He was very peaceful except for his occasional outbursts, which were TERRIBLE. He would randomly lash out with his incredible claws and scratch deep into whatever was nearby (my face, my neck, my friends, my roommate's cornea). I mean, these were serious scratches. I still have scars. After he scratched my roommate in the eye and she had to go to the ER at 4AM, we decided his fragile temperament was getting to be unmanageable.

I contacted his previous foster mom, who said basically, "Thanks for trying. If he is too much for you to handle, let me know and I will take him back."

I'm not one for giving up easily, but he had become a real hazard to my other animals, my roommates, and myself. I gave him some nail caps and prayed for the best.

I don't know if the nail caps traumatized him or what, but in the three years since then Sid has only scratched a few times. He is now THE MOST LOVING cat in the world. He runs to the door to greet me when I get home, doesn't let me sit down without curling up in a ball on my lap, enjoys watching The Office and Grey's Anatomy while spooning with me, loves "cuddling with Mommy," purrs so loudly it sounds like cooing, and spends every night asleep on my head.

He's lived with four other cats and one dog (at different times) in his lifetime and he doesn't really get along with other animals. I mean, he could take 'em or leave 'em.
