Toby is my boy! His mommy brought her kittens one by one to our garage. "White Face" was a feral kitty that belonged to a group of baby kitties I started feeding at the school beside our home. The mommy kitty had come to our house (we had food for our 1 cat outside). We were able to tame the other 3 of her siblings. Actually there were 2 sets of kittens by the same father (Toby's Grandfather), which Tody looks so much alike except his Tucedo pattern was gray & white & his grandfather's pattern was black & white. Toby's mom took her kittens away from our garage but Toby & his brother, Teddy were playing & had gotten left behind. We brought both kittens inside soon after since the mommy only returned a few times to eat. She soon shunned Toby & it seems to just break his heart. Toby had been her favorite. It only took 2 days for Toby once inside our home to bond with me. The strange thing is as much as my daughter & her dad have tried to be friends with Toby, he is still very timid with them but so loving to me. I recently was in the hospital for 2 weeks, Toby either sat at the window waiting for my return or he would hide. My daughter & her dad tried their best to comfort him, to let him know he was loved by both but he just does not bond with anyone but me. We are & have been caring for & feeding, giving them a home to about 25 cats with the youngest being 1 year & almost 6 months. The last kittens (3) was from a feral mommy that has been in our garage. The good thing is all of these kitties have been fixed except this mommy. We will just have to somehow catch her to have her neutered. All 3 of her now grown kittens are as tame & sweet as an be, but their mommy (Callie) just refuses to let us touch her long enough to win her trust. My Toby seems to be the leader of the cats that stay downstairs in our home. Toby is a big & very muscular kitty, so much like his Grandfather that was feral, yet gentle to all his kittens. Eventually we did not see him coming for food or just roaming around so he either moved on to a different section of town or something happened to him. I am pretty sure he had many, many babies in all the neighborhoods that he roamed. When I was feeding his 8 babies, he often came around & even saw him appearing to be babysitting while the mommy took a break & ventured off for a bit.
Our having one kitty about 6 or 7 years ago to feeding & caring for well over 40 (some only came to eat), 3 recently have been coming back for food. I can not help getting upset when I see these strays that I know were once pets. They never were fixed & evidently not that cute kitten they once took in, so they just stop caring for these pets.
