Dewey came to me via the animal shelter. He is an amazing dog so far, doesn't want to leave my side. And when I do leave him he watches every move I make. He is my newest baby in a family of 5 animal babies.
Scooby was rescued from a shelter and then brought to Brookes legacy animal rescue and put up for adoption. He is 6 months old. We adopted him last weekend. He is learning to walk with a leash and learned how to shake hands. He was scheduled with a few other dogs to be put to sleep before he was rescued. It has been just shy if 3 years since we lost our last dog so I think we rescued him thru adoption as much as he rescued us. We are so proud to give him a forever home with us.
Sasha and his mom were removed from an abusive home by the local Animal Protection Services. All his siblings were dead when they found him and brought him to the Shelter where he was housed with his mom for three weeks until the mom was adopted out, leaving Sasha all alone and clearly traumatized by his short life. He was 3 months old. Although cute to look at, he was so timid that no one wanted to give him a forever home. He just backed up and cringed when anyone approached him ...so the months went by until the Shelter had decided to put him down at 6 months of age. He seemed to be totally unsociable and, therefore, not a family's dream puppy at all.
That's when they made a last ditch effort and put his photo on the local cable TV channel. When I met him, he cowered in the corner and wouldn't even look at me. I've never seen such a frightened animal, and I just knew I could give him the 150% love and attention he needed so desperately, so I took him home with me, and there began the saga of Sasha's emotional recovery.
The house rule was no one was allowed to EVER raise their voice when speaking to Sasha. He was to be treated with nothing but tenderness and patience,. He needed a safe place to unfold ... and a lot of time! It took a month before he would enter the house of his own accord, He was terrified of doors ... and humans, but he immediately made friends with Simba the cat. As time went on, it was clear that Sasha loved and trusted all other animals ... he even used to play tag with the wild turkeys that stopped by our property. My friend, however, an experienced Shepherd owner, told me it would take FIVE years for Sasha to bond with me. I almost fell over. Five years? Well, she was right! It did take about 5 years before Sasha trusted me. 5 years and thousands of walks through the fields and forests around our home, as well as 5 summers of lakeside living where he learned to swim with his best friend Buster, a huge bear-like German Shepherd who was 7 years his senior. Buster taught him everything he needed to learn, even how to trust a couple of humans. But that was it: he loved me and he loved Buster's mom and nobody else could get near him for another 5 years!
Honest to God, Sasha has been a real journey of unconditional love, growing up into a handsome protector, a loyal companion, and my best friend. He still has sad eyes, as you can see, but when he's running free, chasing the wind, or scaling the rocks chasing snakes and frogs, fishing for minnows and tadpoles, or bounding through the woods, skidding on the pine needle forest floor, or burying his face in the snow and doing his crazy "rollovers" till he's covered in white ... I know he's as happy as can be. His confidence has gradually developed. bit by bit, year by year, but it is still the vulnerability in his eyes that continues to melt my heart, over and over and over again. He is dearly loved and his comfort and happiness bring me immeasurable joy.
Hi! My name is Rockstar, but my people like to call me Rocky or Rock. One day I sniffed out a great and happy family. When I showed up I was showered with love. They tried to find out where I came from by walking me around the neighborhood and talking to other humans. When that didn't work, they tried putting my photo on telephone poles, at the vets office, the pound, the hardware store, the pet store, and even online! One day my human's "friend" let me loose saying that I would go home... Well, I ran around for a few hours, got bored and came back and waited in the front yard for them to let me back in. After months of no responses from other humans, it was clear to the humans, what I knew all along... I was HOME.
I did decide one day about 5 yrs later to take myself for a walk and got lost and caught by the pound. I managed to slip out of my collar so despite my attempts to tell them where I live, they had nowhere they could take me, but the pound. After being behind bars overnight and for a few hours I was beyond shocked to see my human come to get me! We were both absolutely ecstatic! When I got home there was a strange new dog there. He learned quite quick that I am the boss, though. We are great pals now. Also, since my visit to the pound, my humans got me (and the other canines) all microchipped to make sure I never have to go to the pound again.
(no real clue about the breed just the closest guesses anybody can make)
I have just arrived to the USA from Afghanistan to join my furever family and I love it here already! :)
Most beautiful BEST dog EVER!
Loves long walks and a good game of fetch (although giving the ball back is not a strong point :)
Buster is a rescued german shpherd...and the sweetest dog in the world !!!
Segfried is a huskey, chow, shepard mix we adopted from the MSPCA - he's a great "old man" and we couldn't have asked for a better first dog :)
Wolfgang "Wolfie" Mozart is a Shepard - Timber wolf mix. Wolfie is a lover not a fighter.
Bo, is a mix shepard, chow & husky breed. He is Mom's big baby, a sweetheart of a 60 lbs. of a big guy with a big heart. Loves to chew his rubber toys, run outside around the backyard, hides his doggy bones & play fetch.
Chase everything that get his attention. Squirrels? cats? birds? yes! but don't worry:) Bo is harmless:) he just wants to play! He enjoys riding on his Mom's mini cooper and will give you high five if you have a doggie treat!
