L.A. Is Getting Its 1st Permanent Cat Cafe

Maya Marin

For cat lovers, it's a no brainer. Should I grab a cup of joe at a regular café OR grab a cup of joe while cuddling kitties at a cat café? Uhhh...duh. The second option please. As a multiple cat-owning resident of Los Angeles, it never made sense to me why there seemed to a cat cafés everywhere else but this forward-thinking, sprawling metropolis I call home. These ingenious establishments can be found (domestically) in San Diego, Portland, Grand Rapids, and Austin. Cafes outside the U.S. can be found in Tokyo (which, of course, put cat cafés on the map and famously has a whopping 58 cat cafés within their city alone), London, Bangkok, Vienna, Auckland, Brussels, Copenhagen, Tallinn (Estonia) and even in Vilnius (Lithuania).

Meanwhile, cat-crazy Angelenos made due with temporary pop-up cafés and our belief that one day---one glorious day--we'd be able to get our cat and caffeine fix under the same roof. Well, as of Fall 2016, Los Angeles will finally get its very own permanent cat café! Washington D.C.-basedCrumbs & Whiskers will open a brand new location in Los Angeles near the corner of Melrose and Fairfax. Best of all, all of the cafés cats are rescues and are available for adoption!
