Golden Retriever Snuggles With Maine Coon Kitten Sibling And They're Basically Twins
Fans of big, fluffy felines are very familiar with the Maine Coon, frequently referred to as the gentle giant of the cat world. Characteristics of the Maine Coon breed include a large frame, long fur, talkativeness, and a fondness for water. These hardy, lovable cats are often said to be dog-like in their friendliness and their willingness to learn to fetch or walk on a leash.
In a November 2025 TikTok video that's been viewed more than 996,000 times, a massive ginger Maine Coon is seen stretched out on the sofa beside a golden retriever. The pair look as content as can be, snoozing with their similarly colored fur blending together. Text on the video warns, "If you're considering a Maine Coon please understand they're the size of a golden retriever."

Several viewers of the TikTok video shared their own fondness for large pets. "I need my husband to understand that I want my dogs the size of ponies and my cats to be the size of large dogs," one person posted, to which another responded, "I've never been able to articulate what I want, this is exactly it, thank you, random stranger." Other viewers commented that the Maine Coon looked more like a blanket or a fur rug than a cat. "I spent longer looking for the cat than I'd like to admit. I have a blanket that is like a gray version," one confessed.
Can cats and dogs really be friends?
Felines and canines not getting along may be a common storyline in comics and cartoons, but in real life, a lot of pet owners report that their dogs and cats live together peacefully. There are many strategies to help your cat and dog become best friends. The most important thing is to have patience. Similar to human friendships, cats and dogs don't usually become BFFs overnight. It can take time for bonding — or, at the very least, benign tolerance — to happen. In the meantime, you can help by making sure your pets have separate places to eat, sleep, and play, and carefully supervise all interactions between them.
It's perhaps not a huge surprise that the Maine Coon in the video bonded with a golden retriever. After all, golden retrievers are one of the dog breeds with a great temperament, and also one of the most emotionally intelligent dog breeds. They're known to be affectionate, adaptable, gentle, and highly trainable, similar to Maine Coons. One of the viewers of the TikTok video summed up the cat-dog cuddle puddle perfectly: "Ok, but I want to join this fluffy paradise."
