Dachshund Can't Wait To Get Back To Bed After His Walk And We Can Totally Relate
Walking your dog can be a delightful bonding experience, and many dogs enjoy it! Some dogs, however, like Dougie the dachshund, are definitely not a fan. Just take a look at this TikTok video with nearly 130,000 likes. In it, Dougie's owner shows viewers their pup on the way to their walk, versus on the way home, and the difference is stark. Talk about not being interested. On the bright side, though, Dougie's hilariously reluctant reaction when he gets to go home will definitely leave you in stitches.

Dougie's stressed little face at the beginning of the walk is hard to bear, especially as the camera zooms in for a close-up. But luckily, the second half of the video shows an excited and happy Dougie with a major case of the zoomies on the way home. Other dog owners sympathized in the comments, with one viewer sharing their experience: "We walk 12 blocks. I carry him for the first six and then we walk six back." Another viewer seemed relieved to know his doggo wasn't the only walk-hater, stating, "I thought this was just mine." So, if you happen to wonder if all dogs like walks (or if your dog is an outlier), just remember Dougie.
Why does Dougie hate walks so much?
It's true, Dougie's a weiner dog who can't wait to get back home from a casual stroll. Now, could Dougie, being a dachshund — one of the cutest small dog breeds in the world — have anything to do with this fact? Perhaps. Dachshunds are known for their signature long backs and particularly short legs, which aren't the best for going long distances. So even though the personality traits of dachshunds tend to be energetic and playful, Dougie might not love the distance a walk takes.
What can pups like Dougie do instead for exercise? First, let's consider the fact that Dougie is on the smaller side. Canines are recommended to have anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours of physical exercise a day, depending on a few factors like their size, age, and breed. Rover says small dogs like Dougie could benefit from two to four 15-minute exercise sessions a day. However, these sessions don't have to be walks, necessarily.
There are plenty of outdoor activities beyond your morning walk that a doggo might enjoy, like puppy play dates, a game of fetch, or even finding treats hidden around the yard. So, if your dog is anything like Dougie, as long as there's exercise involved, there might be ways for it to avoid a daily walk. In case your reluctant dog still needs to have a walk from time to time, here are some things you should never do while walking your dog, just to be safe.
