Senior German Shepherd With The Biggest Heart Loves Being Grandma's Little Helper

It's not every dog that gets to eat homemade soup regularly, but Rambo the German shepherd isn't just any dog. When this handsome pup joined the Chow family 10 years ago, he filled an "emptiness in the house," shared owner Anny Chow in a YouTube video published by The Dodo. The adorable doggo is shown being doted on by Chow and her parents, and Rambo, in return, seems utterly devoted to his family. In the video, he also helps his grandma by pulling off her socks and fetching her slippers.

Chow often posts videos of her mother's Cantonese cooking. "Any time we make soup, my mom always makes a mini pot for him," Chow says in a video on Instagram. Rambo, whose nickname is Soup Baby because he loves the food so much, eagerly slurps up everything his grandma cooks for him, then he carries his empty dish back to her.

"What a lovely, gentle boy! The most caring grandchild any grandparents could ask for," one viewer of the YouTube video commented. Another wrote, "It is clear that Rambo is much loved and is very happy. It is so cute seeing him take care of Grandmother."

The importance of caring for a senior pet

Taking care of a senior pup can be challenging, especially when that older dog has weakening legs, arthritis, vision or hearing loss, breathing problems, dental disease, or cognitive conditions such as sundowner's syndrome. Now that Rambo is a senior dog, Chow gives him plenty of extra pampering, including daily massages, stretching, and exercises to ease his joint pain. "I'm doing everything I can to make sure he's comfortable in his senior years," she shared in The Dodo video. "I have the opportunity and privilege to take care of my animal that is aging." She encourages others to take good care of their older pets and to spend quality time with them, striving to create what she calls "meaningful moments."

"Dogs give everything they can to you. Unconditional love, devotion, and protection from the boogeyman and scary squirrels. The least we can do is love and care for them when they start getting older, and slower," one viewer wrote. Another commented, "Pets like Rambo and their amazing owners prove that there's still good to be found in this crazy world."
