Dachshund With Refined Tastebuds Won't Eat Just Any Dog Food

Felines often get a bad rap for being finicky, but sometimes, dogs are the pickiest pets of all. That's definitely the case with a fussy dachshund named Archy. In a TikTok video that's been viewed more than 724,000 times, this diminutive doggo turns up his nose at his proffered bowl of kibble. His owner then pretends to chop up the kibble, adds a tiny bit of water, feigns shaking spices onto the food, and pretends to warm up the bowl before offering the dish to Archy again. This time, the pampered pooch eagerly digs in, his tail wagging happily.

Other owners shared similar stories about the demanding natures of their teeny-weeny wiener dogs. "I had a dachshund growing up that would only eat the red kibbles. He'd pick them out and put them next to his bowl and then eat," one viewer shared. Another viewer described this time-consuming mealtime ritual: "I have to play with a ball to get my dachshund to eat dinner, sometimes walking around or sometimes sitting by him, and if I don't do just the right thing, he begins sulking and tucks his tail, moving really slowly like he's sick and injured. I love him so much."

About the dachshund as a breed

A standard dachshund usually weighs between 16 and 32 pounds, while a miniature clocks in at under 11 pounds. Though very small dogs, darling doxies still require regular exercise. It's especially risky for one to become overweight because the strain on the animal's long back can lead to a herniated disc. Dachshunds usually live 12 to 16 years, making them one of the longest living dog breeds

When it comes to the personality traits of dachshunds, most owners agree that sausage dogs are sweet but stubborn, as bold as brass but also affectionate — and the owners of dachshunds tend to be extremely devoted to the breed. One viewer of the TikTok video about fussy Archy wrote, "There must be a dachshund factory somewhere because how are they all the same!!" Another added, "So we're all slaves to the dachshund, glad it's not just me and my husband."
