From first-ever car rides to seeing snow for the first time, you never know how your pup might respond to new experiences. That's why it's always so delightful when they go well, like in this absolutely adorable, oceanfront TikTok video. In it, sweetheart Penny the bulldog sees the ocean for the first time, and immediately falls in love.

Penny had fun seeing the ocean for the first time. She quickly learned what waves do, her little crinkly face when she tasted the salt water...I can't even stand how cute she is. I just love the ocean, sure wish I could live here. Maybe one day... #bulldogpuppy #beachdog #capecoddog #dogbeach #dogbeachlife

The super-cute clip starts with Penny waddling through sand while serene music plays in the background. Then, she walks into the ocean without hesitation, splashing around with glee. That is, until she has an accidental taste of the salty ocean water, which gives her pause. But not too much! Penny loved the ocean so much that she got in the water one more time after that.

Fans flooded the comments of the video to celebrate this dog having the perfect beach day, with one saying, "She looks like she's having the best time!" Another joked that Penny was even willing to experience drinking salt water, so she must really be a fan.

Do bulldogs like being in the water?

Penny's love for the ocean is so endearing and also a bit funny. You might have noticed Penny had her leash on in the water. This may be due to typical beach leash regulations. However, it also may have been due to one very important fact: bulldogs are notoriously bad swimmers. It's true, their smooshed (aka brachycephalic) faces, short little legs, and heavy, barrel-chested bodies all make swimming tough for these particular fidos.

Penny's love for the water is proof that not all dogs have to like to swim or be great swimmers to love the ocean. When they're not natural-born swimmers — like Portuguese water dogs, for example — it's even more important to take precautions, such as keeping a dog leashed or wearing a life jacket. Luckily, Penny's dog parents had the right idea.

Our girl Penny was only allowed to splash around in shallow water. When she accidentally drank a bit of saltwater, her owner quickly removed her and waited a bit to see the effects before going back in (drinking ocean water can cause vomiting or diarrhea). So, make sure to note these tips for taking your dog to the beach in prep for some maritime fun. That way, your pup can splash around safely like Penny.
