Maltese Gets Carried To Bed Every Night Like A True King And We're Jealous
Maltese dogs have a long, illustrious history, kept as companions for royalty such as Queen Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen of Scots. A modern-day Maltese named Tofu has taken that sense of aristocratic entitlement one step further and insists on being carried up to bed every evening. In a TikTok video that's been watched more than 49,000 times, Tofu waits patiently for one of his royal subjects to bring him a green ottoman cover to serve as his royal carriage, whisking him upstairs to his royal chambers. Tofu is dressed in a yellow sequined vest and colorful crown, like the royalty he is.

"I love you, your majesty, Tofu! May you have a most agreeable night's rest on the softest of pillows. 👑," one viewer wrote, while another pledged loyalty to the petite pooch: "I bend the knee gladly to thee, King Tofu." One person channeled Tofu's thoughts, writing, "Yes peasant...this pleases me."
In a previous TikTok video, the dog's owner shared that the unusual bedtime ritual came about randomly, and now Tofu insists upon it every night. One viewer commented, "You are in the service of the King now. A gentleman's valet." Another pointed out, "He Pavlov'ed you."
All about Maltese dogs
Maltese may be small dogs — weighing under 10 pounds — but they have big personalities and can be fearless in the face of danger, often barking loudly upon hearing unfamiliar noises or encountering unfamiliar people. They require training and proper socialization to prevent them from getting too protective of their owners. These little white pups become very attached to their people and enjoy staying close by or even climbing onto a lap, which means they're at risk of separation anxiety when left on their own too much.
Maltese are one of the dog breeds that get along well with cats, other dogs, and children. They tend to be gentle, loving, and playful, but they're such small dogs that they're at risk of getting hurt by children who are too young to understand how to be gentle with a pet. Though they're energetic animals, they don't need huge amounts of exercise to stay happy and healthy.
As with many smaller dogs, they can live a long time. The typical life span of a Maltese is 12 to 15 years. King Tofu may still have many years left to reign in his household. One viewer, clearly worried about living under similar canine rule, wrote about the TikTok video, "Don't let my dog see this."
