Foster Puppy Brothers Refuse To Listen To Mom Like Mischievous Little Toddlers

Toddler and puppy antics aren't all that different when you think about it. There's, of course, potty training adventures, and then there's the many mistakes everyone makes teaching puppies and toddlers new things. As a hilarious viral TikTok shows us, there's also that funny toddler defiance that puppies do so well. Thanks to adorable foster pups Barney, and a mysteriously missing Chester, we get to see those mischievous little puppy hijinks firsthand!

All Barney's foster mom wanted was for him to go get his brother Chester from behind the couch. She asks him several times in the under two-minute clip (with over 4 million views), as Barney mostly just hovers adorably by the back corner of the couch. When he's scooted in the right direction, Barney hilariously creeps right back from behind the couch and stares. Mission not accomplished.

It's also important to note that this video takes place during medication time for the pups, which is quite possibly the reason for Chester's disappearance. As one viewer joked in the comments, Barney's side-eye later in the video is proof that he's definitely stalling for not just Chester, but himself, too. With playful pups like these, their foster mom might need some more sneaky ways to give the dogs medicine.

We never officially spot Chester, and Barney's surely not listening throughout the video. So the question is, will these puppers learn to be more disciplined? When can a puppy start training classes and obedience training, anyway?

Well, it's generally understood that puppies start training through exposure to their environment by 8 weeks old. This sort of exposure includes learning about cars and the outdoors, and socializing with other dogs and pups. When it comes to specific and formal training, like teaching your dog to come when called, or fetch, it's safer to wait until about 12-16 weeks, or four months old (the age pups are also encouraged to work with professional trainers). Keep in mind, training a dog is truly a lifelong process, and no dog is too old or young to learn.

Raising a puppy can be tough. Like Barney and little-missing-Chester, puppies are known for being quite mischievous before training. Supervision and patience can go a long way. Puppies deemed disobedient really just need extra care, focus, and clear guidelines. So don't worry about Barney and Chester, they'll learn soon enough!
