Maine Coon Cat Can't Wait To Climb Into His Sleeping Bag 'After A Long Day Of Hiking'

Anyone who's ever gone for a long trek and couldn't wait to collapse into their sleeping bag afterward will no doubt identify with Mugen, a Maine coon who lives in Vancouver, Canada. In a TikTok video that's been viewed more than 531,000 times, the fluffy adventure cat forces his way into his tent through a small opening in the zipper, then he crawls into a cozy sleeping bag. When one of his owners lifts the edge of the sleeping bag to peek inside, Mugen gives an indignant blink of his large yellow eyes.

After a long day of hiking, Mugen usually goes straight into his orange @bigagnes tent as soon as it's set up. He's been sleeping in it since his first camping trip and knows it's his home away from home 🥹⛺️ #camping #adventurecat #campinglife #backcountry #mainecoon

"The 'no thank you' was unspoken but loud," one viewer wrote, while another added, "Mugen: you know I'm supposed to sleep 16 hours a day, right?" One person suggested that the cat should be at home resting, to which Mugen's owners responded, "He cries if we leave him at home 🥺." Many viewers remarked on Mugen's impressive size, with one jokester comparing him to a yeti.

One commenter expressed concern about the hike perhaps being too long for the fluffy feline to handle. Mugen's owners explained that this 8-kilometer (5-mile) hike was the longest trek they had done with the cat, adding, "It's a lot, but we worked up to this distance, and he knows to go on our backpacks for a ride if [he] needs a break 😊."

Maine coons are the gentle giants of the cat world

A typical Maine coon cat can stretch 40 inches in length, but the world record holder for the longest domestic cat ever was a Maine coon named Stewie, who reached an impressive 48.5 inches. Males can tip the scales at 25 pounds, while females are more likely to weigh between 10 and 14 pounds.

Identifying a Maine coon is usually pretty simple, given their immense muscular bodies, big fluffy paws, ear tufts, and sweet personalities. These lovable cats have long, thick fur that requires regular grooming to stop mats from forming. Mugen's owners admitted they must bribe their pet with treats after each outdoor adventure in order to brush out all the mess that has accumulated in his long fur.

Maine coons are often described as doglike thanks to their fondness for playing fetch, splashing around in water, greeting strangers, and following their owners from room to room — or, in Mugen's case, following his owners in forests, on beaches, and through snow. His owners commented on the TikTok video, "We're so lucky he actually enjoys it :) It's a privilege to share these experiences with him."
