15 Dogs Who Are So Dramatic They Deserve An Oscar
There are dogs that slink about the room, too shy to be noticed by anyone but their owners. Those aren't the dogs we're talking about today. We're interested in the dramatic ones. The tiny pup that only walks on luxury surfaces. The dog who sulks on the couch because you had the audacity to leave the house. These pups have feelings about their food, their walks, their bedtime, and the cucumber someone left on the kitchen floor — and they're not keeping those feelings to themselves.
Not every dog is cut out for a simple, quiet life, and the ones on this list have made that very clear. But somehow, it's almost impossible to be annoyed at them. There's something about a dog with a big personality that makes even the exhausting moments worth it. You might lose a few bites of your lunch, but you'll never be bored. Perhaps some of these performances should get their own category at the Oscars for "Best Canine Actor."
1. Louie declared war on a cucumber
Louie looks like a sweet, fluffy poodle mix, but he's actually a combatant in a long-running battle. His opponent? Cucumbers! An adorable Instagram video shows the pup reacting violently to a slice of cucumber. The offending vegetable lies indoors on a polished floor, as though someone's dropped a piece of their dinner. Louie smells trouble immediately and bats at the cucumber like it might sprout fangs and bite him. When the cucumber slides a few inches on the floor, Louie steps back before launching a new attack. Sort of.
Instead of ripping the cucumber into pieces, Louie pounces like he's about to attack, then stops at the last minute. His snapping jaws barely scrape the vegetable's skin. He's riled up but clearly doesn't know what to do with his green nemesis. "Baby is mad about it!" one viewer commented. Another joked that Louie was "fighting for his life with that thing."
2. A spare human just wouldn't do for Chase
If you watch this Instagram clip of Chase howling piteously, and you ignore all of the surrounding text, you might think you were viewing a sad story. That poor, quaking Chihuahua must be going through something terrible to express such distress. He was, according to clingy-dog logic. Chase's family revealed in a comment that the pooch had been left at home with a "spare" human rather than his favorite. They added in another comment, "Sometimes the drama is just too real, and he misses mommy a bit too much."
Chase's behavior isn't strange to anyone who's familiar with Chihuahuas. The spunky little breed frequently appears on lists of common lap dogs. They tend to love being around their people and do not do well spending lots of time alone. Chase wasn't left literally alone, but he may as well have been. A spare won't cut it when a Chihuahua has his heart set on one beloved human.
3. Wally knew exactly what he was doing
Chase garners sympathy with his howl; Wally prefers wielding his big, brown eyes. A short Instagram video captured the dachshund throwing a heart-meltingly cute glance over his shoulder. It's not an idle look; the dachshund is standing by a doorway and obviously wants to go outside. His silent begging has won him many fans, including a commenter who said: "Who could resist that look?" Honestly, not many people could.
Wally's antics seem even more dramatic when you realize that there's another sausage dog next to him. That furry brown creature, Kirby, is a master of patience compared to Wally. Kirby sits quietly at the door, gazing straight ahead; Wally whips his head back like he's performing for an audience. The contrast between the two is almost too good. Did Wally's puppy-dog eyes do the trick? According to a comment by his owner, they always do. Wally's figured out how to get his humans to do what he wants. Kirby's still working on it.
4. Leo drew the line at wet pavement
Dogs are supposed to be great beasts of the wild. They like to play rough and don't care about getting dirty. That canine description doesn't apply to Leo, however. Leo's so dainty that he avoids being in the rain.
A drama unfolded when Leo's human filmed herself trying to take Leo on a walk on a rainy day. The Instagram video shows the tiny furball getting as far as the front door before he gives up and refuses to take another step. His leash is attached, he's wearing a doggy rain jacket, and he has a human beckoning him over the threshold, but none of that is enough. Seeing the wet scene outdoors completely zapped his desire to explore. Leo seems overdramatic, but it's possible that he's reacting to past thunderstorms. If he was rattled by an especially loud bout of thunder, the terror might have instilled a lifelong fear of rain in him.
5. Pancho prefers being carried
Pancho sometimes refuses to go on walks, too, but his reluctance extends to bright, sunny days. An Instagram video referred to as a "trauma vlog" by his owner lets you see his stubborn habits. First, they try walking on Pancho on concrete. He doesn't move. They switch to a nice grassy area and try again. Still no luck. Pancho does not want to walk, and he won't unless someone drags him. It's unlikely that any surface on Earth was ever going to change his mind that day.
Over 150,000 people have liked Pancho's on-camera diva moment so far. Many joked that trying to get the sausage dog to use its little legs is distinctly unfair. "You will stop treating Pancho with this disrespect!" one said. The video creators play into Pancho's diva reputation and explain that he's mad because they dared to attach a leash to his beautiful Hermes collar. He doesn't seem to mind being carried outside. Some dogs fetch sticks. Pancho prefers to be chauffeured.
6. Barkley staged a hunger protest
Chubby, wrinkly Barkley wants a treat, and he wants it now! He doesn't care about his diet. His Oscars-worthy appeal for more food was posted on TikTok. His behavior checks all the boxes for a desperate, hungry dog. He whines, growls, and stomps his feet. However, his bulging belly and glossy fur give the lie to the woebegotten look. The woman filming the video even says she'll give him a carrot to appease his hunger. Barkley seems to understand the word because he reacts with an indignant snort.
@barkleythabulldog Barkley is having a TEMPER TANTRUM over a treat! 😜 #englishbulldog #bulldog #Barkleythabulldog #spoileddog #bulldogsoftiktok
Barkley decides he's so hungry that he may as well munch on what's in front of him — the woman's pants. Multiple commenters noticed his attempt to eat her legs, with one saying, "So, he's just gonna snack on you in the meantime?" Luckily, Barkley isn't serious about his knee nibbles, and he goes back to softly growling before plopping on the floor in resignation. Don't blame him too harshly; changing your dog's diet can affect its behavior.
7. Milo reverted to paw slaps
Extra meals are a big deal in the canine world, and Milo's even more vocal than Barkley in his quest to secure more food. Milo's a gorgeous, chocolate Labrador, yet he has a whine that would shame a two-year-old. He even sounds like he's crying in this TikTok video highlighting his begging behavior. You can see him sitting upright on a leather couch, looking eagerly at the person holding the camera. When his whimpers don't get the desired reaction, he adds a few paw slaps for emphasis.
@milothechocolate Milo is very vocal this morning!😂 #lab #labrador #labradorretriever #fyp #funnydog
By the end of the video, Milo is still treatless. His tantrum doesn't get him anything but TikTok fame. A few viewers commented that if they had been there listening to those soft whines, they would have loaded Milo up with whatever treat he wanted. "Second breakfast now!" one said. Milo's human added in a comment that the pup had just eaten when the video was filmed, and a desired second dinner wasn't the only reason for his cries. He was partly making noise just for the joy of it.
8. Kona howled instead of going inside
The last thing Kona wants to do is go to bed. A TikTok video shows the husky in his element, lying in the snow on a cold night. It's no surprise he breaks into a howl instead of getting up when his human says it's time to go. Kona has the demeanor of a dog that would happily stay outside all night, no matter how cold it gets. The snow isn't a problem for him; it's the whole point.
@konathehusky Bedtime tantrum #bedtime #huskiesoftiktok #siberianhusky #colorado #tempertantrum #dogsoftiktok
Unfortunately for Kona's adventurous plans, his humans decide that he can't stay outside and live amidst the snow. He has to go back into the house and sleep in the warmth. Kona doesn't take the news well. He doesn't just let loose one or two long howls to show his frustrations; the video claims that he howled for a full twenty minutes before accepting his fate. His behavior isn't unusual, however. Huskies are known for being screamers.
9. Nala did not take the news well
Nala's TikTok dramatics are good enough to be in a TV show. A viral video starts with her sitting peacefully beside the woman who cares for her, a text bubble reading "whisper your dog's least favorite word and see their reaction" floating over their heads. A few seconds later, the woman whispers the trigger word. Nala's reaction is immediate. She moves to the side and maintains eye contact as though she's squaring up for a fight. "She's about to throw paws," one commenter said.
@nala_the_needy_rottie 👹 U SERIOUS 👹 #funnydogvideos #rottweiler
So, what's the terrible word that inspired such anger? It's revealed in the comments: bath. Nala needs a scrub, and she's not looking forward to it. However, the bath might be a better option than the other potential fear word that commenters threw about, vet. It would be normal if Nala had a strong reaction to that word, too. A trained dog may understand more than 1,000 words.
10. Duke found his happy place on the concrete
Golden retrievers should come with a warning: take them to a home improvement store, and they may never want to leave! The extra-wide aisles are dog-friendly, and there are plenty of delicious new smells to enjoy. There may even be some dirt lying around. A TikTok video shows Duke sprawled on a concrete floor at a home improvement store, with wood beams stacked behind him. It's time to go, but he's not moving. He practically melded with the floor. Every passing stranger could get a good look at him.
@dukethatgolden My golden retriever acting like laying is the end of the world 🤣 #goldenretriever #dog #puppy #dogtraining
Duke is a big, healthy golden, so moving him against his will would be a hassle, although not impossible. In this case, such a drastic move proved unnecessary. The video ends with a flash of Duke's fur as he finally rises and ends the drama. He wasn't hurt or lying down because he was too exhausted to move. He was simply throwing a tantrum. Duke knew exactly what he was doing, and he'd probably do it again given half the chance.
11. Teddy performed while Lennie waited politely
We're all good at something, and Teddy's skill is adding a little flair to his begging ritual. Normal pups beg for food like Lennie, the second animal in the Instagram video featuring Teddy's attention-getting ways. Lennie sits quietly and hopes for the best, his eyes focused on the food. He exudes patience.
Teddy behaves like a busker performing for his treat. He, too, keeps his eyes pinned on the food, but he chooses to point his body in a different direction and whip his small head around. An amused viewer commented, "I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't this." Teddy's quirky move makes it seem like he's trying to compete with Lennie for attention. If that's true, his efforts worked perfectly. It's almost impossible to stay focused on Lennie's sedate pose while Teddy is in the room doing circus act twists.
12. Poppy begs with a full body wiggle
If you decide to eat lunch around an energetic Labrador, prepare for a show. Just watch this Instagram video featuring Poppy if you're not convinced. Poppy's version of the entertainment includes a begging dance where she doesn't howl for food but instead wiggles on her back and paws at the air. Many commenters said they would share their lunch with Poppy, despite the fact that she had already eaten. The drama is so compelling that major brands were hooked as well. Soda giant Mug Root Beer commented, "Just give in."
The extra work Poppy put into her begging was worth it. The Instagrammer who posted the video said Poppy eventually received the tasty morsel she was aiming for. She also received over 100,000 Instagram likes and hundreds of comments. Poppy's a star. Those who aren't charmed by her silly behavior can still fall in love with her beautiful black coat and soft eyes.
13. Sorry wasn't good enough for Aurora
Everyone's used to humans nursing a grudge — it's much stranger to see a dog do it. Yet, that's what an Instagram clip of Aurora seems to show. The camera catches her sitting on a couch in a human-like position. She stares straight ahead as though she's watching TV. When someone calls her name, she ignores the sound and continues her stare. A text overlay on the video provides the background information. Aurora's stern behavior is a response to her owner leaving the house without her. She wants to be with humans all the time.
The voice in the video says "I'm sorry," and Aurora ignores those words as well. She has the air of a stubborn child who's giving someone the silent treatment. It seems dramatic, yet ignoring your dog is one of the easiest ways to hurt their feelings. Aurora could have legitimately felt alone when the human she trusted left temporarily.
14. This Pup Cup took far too long for Winston
Whining, fidgeting, Winston threw a tantrum in the back of a car because he wanted his Pup Cup from the Starbuck's secret menu faster. The Instagram video documenting his disappointment begins as he waits in a drive-thru for his treat to appear. It takes too long by Winston's standards, so he turns into a drama king. He cries loudly and rubs himself all over the seat, digging his paws into the seat cover. Anyone who's ever been truly hungry will understand where he's coming from. "Winston needs to speak to a manager about the delays," one commenter said.
Winston's a 120-pound, muscular pit bull who could be cast as the "tough dog" in a movie. But, looks mean nothing in this case. Winston's tantrum shows that he's really a big softie. He wants a Pup Cup and maybe a cuddle afterward. The video's caption describes Winston as having a big body with "bigger feelings" and no patience.
15. The frozen river didn't stop Jax
Jax isn't worried about getting another bite to eat or clinging to a human. The well-loved TikTok video that shows Jax's funny behavior is set on the waterfront. Jax desperately wants to swim, but there's a big problem: It's winter, and the river is iced over. That doesn't dampen Jax's energy, however. He plops to his side and begins a mad doggy paddle, his paws slapping the air. He's not in any danger because he's lying on a shallow part of the ice where the lake bottom is clearly visible. His dedication to the swim is genuinely impressive.
As Jax gets deeper into his water-less paddle, joy becomes evident. This isn't a temper tantrum or an outburst of annoyance. This is Jax having a blast on the ice. Still, real water might be even more fun. The Weather Channel commented, "I'll tell summer it needs to hurry up for him." Until then, Jax will just have to make do with what he's got. He seems perfectly fine with that.
