British Shorthair Cat Getting A Face Massage Takes Relaxation To The Next Level

Cats are pretty chill creatures. Their ability to nap and snooze all day long is legendary, and cats can sleep in awkward positions that would send most humans straight to the chiropractor. There's something supremely satisfying about seeing a cat in full relaxation mode, which might explain why it's so enjoyable watching a chocolate-colored British shorthair named Louis getting a face massage.

In a sweet TikTok video that's been viewed more than 442,000 times, Louis's owner holds the brown kitty on her lap and uses two fingers to gently massage his furry little face. Louis is completely blissed out, with his eyes closed and an expression of utter contentment. Viewers of the video couldn't stop gushing about the adorable kitty. "He is so cuteeee 🥰🥺," one viewer wrote. Another commented, "Omg so squishy 🥹😭."

Louis clearly enjoys receiving these face massages, as his TikTok feed shows several more videos of them. He's such a good-natured creature that other videos show him wearing items on his head ranging from a hat and a pair of sunglasses to a banana peel and a carved-out pumpkin.

Are chocolate-colored cats rare?

Many viewers of the video zeroed in on Louis's luscious chocolate-colored fur. "Sweetest chocolate cookie 😻😻😻," one person commented, while another exclaimed, "Omg! I want a brown cat so bad!! I can't find any." Chocolate is amongst the rarest cat colors, right up there with cinnamon, chinchilla color, black smoke, and a light shade of purple. For a cat to have brown fur, the animal must inherit the right combination of genes from both parents. Understanding this requires a brief genetics lesson.

The gene for black (B) fur is dominant, while the genes for chocolate brown (b) and cinnamon brown (b1) fur are both recessive. A cat that inherits two of the B gene from its parents will have black fur. A cat that inherits one B gene along with either a b or a b1 gene will be black but will carry that recessive gene and be able to pass it along to some of its offspring. A cat with two b genes will be chocolate brown, while a cat with two b1 genes will be cinnamon brown. If a cat has one b gene and one b1 gene, the result will be chocolate fur (not cinnamon) because b is dominant over b1.

Whatever the genetic explanation is for Louis's gorgeous chocolate-colored fur, the fact remains that he looks cute enough to eat. As one viewer wrote, "I need this chocolate cookie 🥹🤎."
