Great Pyrenees Becomes The 'Best Dog' For Taking In An Unexpected Farm Animal
Life can be tough for a farm animal rejected by its mother. Fortunately for a little lamb named Flora, help arrived in the form of a gentle giant of a dog who wouldn't leave her side. In a sweet TikTok video captioned "He's the best dog 🥹🤍" — which has been watched more than 588,000 times — Max the Great Pyrenees became Flora's protector and surrogate parent after Flora's mother gave birth to triplets and wasn't able to care for all three of them. Max's owner explained in a comment on the video, "Triplets are hard on a mama sheep. With the mom only having two teats the stronger two usually take all the milk, and the tiniest one gets pushed aside." Max's owner stepped in to bottle-feed Flora, while Max volunteered for cuddling duty.

"Max isn't a stepdad. He's the dad that stepped up," one viewer wrote. Several people suggested that the story of Max and Flora should be made into a children's book, and one person observed, "Real life Disney movie before our eyes." Many viewers admitted to doing a double-take after realizing that cute little Flora was a live animal, not a toy. One wrote, "I was so confused because I thought Flora was a stuffed animal at first until I saw the bottle."
Are Great Pyrenees usually good with other animals?
With their impressive strength, size, and speed, along with their natural guardian instincts, Great Pyrenees are one of the best dog breeds for a small ranch. They're also one of the best protective dog breeds, eager to safeguard livestock such as sheep, goats, and chickens from wolves and other predators. Pyrs tend to get along well with cats, other dogs, and children, though they can be overly protective against anyone or anything they view as a threat. These gentle giants were bred to survive on the snowy Pyrenees mountaintops, with their long, thick, white double coats, and they often get described as majestic.
"Those dogs have amazing powers. Protectors, guardians and dad!" wrote one viewer of the TikTok video, while another commented, "What a sweet doglet. He knew the assignment and got straight to it." Many people were moved to tears watching the massive dog care for the tiny lamb. One commented, "How can anyone possibly believe that animals do not have souls? This is heartbreakingly beautiful."
