Golden Retriever Puppy Who Won't Stay In Her Crate Plays By Her Own Set Of Rules

Some dogs are so eager to please that they'll do just about anything their owners expect of them, but other dogs seem to have an independent streak right from the day they're born. Daisy the golden retriever puppy is one such headstrong pooch. In a funny TikTok video with the words "attempting to make my puppy sleep in her crate" written across it, the adorable little floof gets placed in a crate by her owner. Daisy immediately prances out of the crate and flops on the rug next to the sofa. By the end of the video, the free-spirited doggo is shown sleeping soundly under the edge of the couch. Daisy's owner captioned the video "maybe next time 🐾🤎."

Viewers were charmed by the guileless golden, describing her as "soooo cute" and a "precious baby." Commenters also admired the puppy's clear desire to play by her own rules. "Daisy knew who she was from the start 😭," wrote one person, while another observed, "That baby sleeps where she likes 😁."

All about crate training a dog

Pet owners often have strong opinions about whether or not to crate train a dog. One viewer commented on the TikTok video, "I never crated my dogs and they are just fine! let that cute lil pup sleep where it wants 😂❤️," to which another person responded, "Crate training is very positive for the dog when done right."

It's recommended to crate train because it gives a dog a dedicated space for resting, relaxing, and feeling secure. The crate becomes a safe haven for a dog recuperating from an injury or wishing to escape a stressful situation, such as a crowded house party, a thunderstorm, construction noise, or fireworks. A crate-trained dog can be easily transported in a car or airplane and safely evacuated during a crisis, reducing the risk of loss, injury, or forced separation at an emergency shelter. Crate training can also be a useful tool to employ when housebreaking a puppy.

If you decide to crate train a puppy or a dog, be sure to make the crate appealing to your pet by placing a cozy blanket inside and feeding your dog tasty treats in there. You may want to cover the dog crate occasionally, such as at bedtime or during a long car trip. The idea is to make the crate into a sanctuary so appealing that even feisty little Daisy might be enticed to sleep in it. Then again, Daisy might just continue to do whatever she pleases.
