This Bernese Mountain Dog Mix Got A New Kitten Sibling And Didn't Even Realize It
Dogs are known for their superior senses that allow them to detect things that humans don't notice. Their sense of smell is so impressive that researchers suspect dogs can smell some unexpected things, such as thunderstorms, stress, pregnancy, and cancer. Plus, dogs can hear sounds between 40 and 60,000 hertz, while humans can only hear between 20 and 20,000 hertz. Dogs even seem to possess senses that go beyond the basic five, such as the ability to sense fear, weather changes, a person's impending seizure, and when their owner is coming home. And then there's Bean.
@bakedbeandoggo They're becoming best buddies now! @Eloise
According to his TikTok bio, Bean is three-quarters Bernese mountain dog, one-quarter golden retriever, and "100% a goofy boy." In an entertaining TikTok video that's been viewed more than 26.2 million times and liked over 3.8 million times, Bean is fixated on his owners, apparently unaware of the little feline face peeking out of the cat tower in the corner of the room. "How long does it take Bean to notice we got a kitten?" is written across the video.
Viewers were amused by the oblivious pooch. "Aren't dogs supposed to have a super sense of smell 👀," wrote one. Another observed, "Took him 7 business days to notice 😂😭." The kitten, on the other hand, seems to watch Bean throughout the entire video. One person commented, "The kitten was like what's taking him so long 😭."
Introducing a cat and a dog
Some viewers of the TikTok video expressed concern about the two animals' first interaction. "I really don't want to be that person but introducing them while the cat has no second exit probably wasn't a good idea for the cats anxiety 😭," one person wrote. Another commented, "I feel like they did everything wrong."
One of the top tips for helping a cat and dog become best friends is to keep the animals separated in the home for a few days before attempting a first meeting, with the dog safely leashed during this initial encounter. Watch carefully for any signs of anxiety or aggression, and end the encounter immediately if either animal gets upset. Patience is the key as the fur babies slowly get to know one another.
Viewers predicted that the tiny kitten would quickly come to dominate the household, with one commenting, "Oh he is plotting how he will run his kingdom 😂," and another calling the kitty a "new tiny overlord." Later videos of the furry BFFs show the kitten playing with Bean, snuggling with the big dog, and sharing Bean's food dish. One person channeled the kitten's thoughts, writing, "This big beast is no match for me 😂😂."
