Golden Retriever Adorably Gets Pulled Into Truck By The Ear By Antsy German Shepherd Sibling

We all need a friend at times, someone who's there to help us through thick and thin, good times and bad. In a sweet TikTok video that's been viewed more than 11.9 million times and liked over 400,000 times, a German shepherd named Zara and a golden retriever named Zeca exemplify that strong bond of friendship.

In the video, the GSD leaps easily onto the tailgate of a pickup truck, then the golden puts his two front paws onto the tailgate and stops, unable to hoist himself up. Impatient but trying to be helpful, Zara grasps one of Zeca's ears in her mouth and attempts to tug the golden into the truck, at which point the human quickly steps in and lifts up Zeca, looking amused by all the canine antics.

Viewers were completely charmed by the doggy friendship. "Besties for sure 💕," one wrote, while another observed, "German Floof was going [to] pull Golden Floof onboard by the ears." One netizen channeled Zara's thoughts, writing, "If you're not gonna do it dad I will!!! 🤣🤣" Several people mentioned the chill nature of golden retrievers, making comments such as "Golden is such a golden 😂❤" and "Goldens are soooo lazy! I love them 😍😍." A few people, however, warned about goldens being prone to hip dysplasia.

What is hip dysplasia?

Large dog breeds are at higher risk of certain health conditions, including hip dysplasia. Many golden retrievers, German shepherds, Labrador retrievers, and other big dogs are affected by this orthopedic condition that causes the hip joints to fit together more loosely than they should. A young dog with hip dysplasia might not show any signs of pain or limited mobility, but as the dog ages, a weakness in the rear legs may become apparent as the hip dysplasia causes painful conditions such as arthritis or bone spurs to develop.

One viewer of the TikTok video, who used to have a German shepherd, recommended getting a ramp for Zeca and Zara because hip dysplasia can affect both GSDs and goldens, "and jumping that high, especially down, will make such an impact in their joints that you will see the consequences later on." Another way to support an older dog's weakening legs is to make sure the animal stays at a healthy weight from puppyhood through the senior years, to reduce excess pressure on the hip joints.

But, as many of us know firsthand, maintaining a healthy weight — and resisting snacks — can be challenging. One viewer imagined the canine conversation going on between Zara and Zeca, with the GSD saying "Te dije que dejaras de comer tantas galletas" ("I told you to stop eating so many cookies") and the golden responding "Es que son tan ricas" ("They're so delicious").
