Saint Bernard Takes New Mini-Me Sibling Under His Wing And We Can't Stop Watching

Adopting a new pup sibling to the family can be a total win, or a pretty chaotic journey as everyone gets adjusted; seriously, sibling puppy fights are no joke! So, it's always delightful to find siblings who become fast friends. Saint Bernard Otis and his mini-me, aka new little sister Mabel, are a wonderful example of an adoption-gone-right. These cuties love each other's company, and it's absolutely adorable to see.

In this ten-second clip, gentle giant Otis snuggles with smaller Mabel in their grey bed as the two chew on their respective toy bones. Beside them is another fuzzy toy that these sweeties likely share. The TikToker captioned the video, "We got Otis a friend! Meet Mabel!" It's very clear that these kiddos have become best buds. One viewer swooned that Saint Bernards are the "best breed," which may or may not have something to do with these look-a-likes' instant connection. We know one thing is for sure: they are some of the cutest siblings we've ever seen!

What makes pet siblings compatible?

Saint Bernard siblings Otis and Mabel are two peas in a pod, even though they were adopted at different times. There's no evidence that suggests canines know (or care) when they're the same breed, so what helps dog siblings get along, and are there ways you can facilitate a solid bond as a pup parent?

First, it's important to assess your household to see if you're ready for a new addition. That's because even if you're ready to adopt a dog, time constraints and an inability to give new siblings the attention they need can negatively affect their relationship. Supervision in those early moments is essential to really understand what your older dog and new puppy need to really get used to each other.

Then, once you know for sure that you're ready for a new puppy, it can help to understand your current fido's personality, energy level, and even its sex. For example, some behaviorists recommend that a relaxed male dog is more likely to get along with an equally calm female dog, though each dog's individual personality will play a part. Once you find your new fur baby, and your two darlings meet (a neutral space outside of your home is best), it's only a matter of time before these little guys learn more about each other, like Otis and Mabel. And before you know it, you may even find yourself thinking life is easier with a second dog.
