Border Collie-Bernese Mix Totally Steals The Show From Mom Showing Off Her Outfit

Our puppers dabble in fashion every now and again, and it's always fantastic. Like when a two-legged dachshund made his runway debut, and we all became his biggest fans. We dog-lovers love a fashion-forward fido, like in this incredibly cute TikTok where one border collie-Bernese mix totally steals the show from his mom and her impressive outfit by simply rocking his natural coat.

He's a bordernese, and he knows style. When his mom poses in front of the camera in wide-leg jeans, a black bag, a grey jacket, and a scarf, this guy is sure to sniff each garment. Gotta make sure this look works! Then, he gives her literal seconds to show off before walking in between her legs and flashing the most stylish grin. Immediately, all eyes are on him and his gorgeous black and white coat. No offense to his dog mom! She seems to agree that he's stolen the show as she notes in the video, "Dogs make fit checks better."

What's behind a dog's gorgeous coat color?

One thing's for sure: this bordernese's coat is easily proving that black and white coats will never go out of style. But, did you know that not all border collie-Bernese mixes will have a coat like this? It's true, like other mixed-breed dogs, a bordernese's coat can potentially be several different color variations depending on both their border collie and Bernese mountain dog parent, including black, white, and shades of brown.

Even more fascinating, did you know all the many canine coat colors come from just two pigments: phaeomelanin (red) and eumelanin (black)? Yup, coat color is the result of a dog's genes' response to those pigments. Over time, external factors can also alter a coat's look. For example, just like humans, dog fur can turn grey or white due to age.

In addition, some pet parents may notice their white-furred pups turning slightly pink around the eye or mouth. This is a result of a thing called porphyrins, or excretions like tears or saliva that are super high in iron, known for staining light fur! Typically, porphyrins are nothing to be worried about, but be sure to check with your vet to make sure there are no additional symptoms that may be cause for concern. Now, regardless of the color, a balanced diet and regular grooming will keep your pooch's coat shiny and healthy, just like these dogs with unique coats that will take your breath away.
