Adorable Ginger Kitten Figures Out How To Drink From A Straw & Hilarity Ensues

Most cat owners know what it's like to have their cat steal a sip from their cup or mug. What's far less common, however, is to see a cat sipping from a straw. In a cute video that's been viewed more than 4 million times on TikTok — and racked up over 540,000 likes — the owners of Argie the kitten wake up and witness the little ginger drinking from a straw. The adorable kitten also chews on the straw and tries to stick his entire head in the drinking glass. Like a slapstick scene straight out of a Hollywood movie, the video ends with the kitten falling off the table (uninjured!).

"This is so orange cat," one viewer observed, and another pointed out, "Cats can be the stealthiest or the clumsiest creatures ever." Many cat owners chimed in to share the drinking preferences of their own finicky felines: cups, coffee mugs, plant pots, the dog's water bowl, the bathroom sink, and (of course) the toilet. "Give our baby some water," one netizen urged, to which Argie's owners responded, "He has 2 different places and always chooses ours."

The facts behind cats and water

It's a common misconception that all cats hate water. In truth, some cats are totally obsessed with water, not just consuming it (like this intense black cat drinking from the kitchen faucet), but also splashing around in it and jumping into full bathtubs or running showers. Other cats, however, seem to despise being wet or even drinking. One frustrated netizen asked, "Can somebody please explain why my cat doesn't drink water."

There are several ways to get a cat to drink more water. First is to try different bowls. Definitely ditch any plastic bowls, and try stainless steel, ceramic, or glass instead. Also, try moving the water dish far away from the cat's food dish and litter box. Several viewers urged Argie's owners to buy him a pet water fountain, and they wrote in response, "We have got him one we were just waiting for it to arrive 🥰." The constant flow of water in a fountain can be enticing to fussy felines.

It's also a good idea to have several water dishes or fountains scattered around the home, to give plenty of options. After all, only the best will do for a pampered pussycat. One netizen described their overindulged kitty: "My tortie prefers perfectly chilled filtered water from the fridge, in a goblet." No doubt Argie will be demanding that next.
