Bernedoodle Puppy Refusing To Put His Coat On Goes Into Full Toddler Mode

As pet parents, we sometimes have to get our pups to do things they're not too excited about, like all the dogs who definitely do not want to take a bath, for example. Then there are those stubborn moments when our doggos go into full toddler mode, like in this hilarious TikTok. It all started after one Bernedoodle puppy was asked to wear his coat for a quick trip. Too bad this little guy had other plans.

As the wise creator says, "Having a dog is basically just having a toddler with more fur." Which is exactly how we'd describe the ever-adorable Louie, a Bernedoodle puppy who apparently isn't a fan of clothes — or at least not coats to protect from the freezing cold. At the beginning of the video, Louie is found looking out the window, clearly interested in the outdoors. When his mom tells him he can't go walking without his coat, this fella doesn't budge.

Then, in a funny turn of events, Louie is next seen behind a corner, hiding from his mom and said coat. Unfortunately, Louie is seen in the next moment very reluctantly wearing his blue coat. He's so upset about it that he refuses to walk, so his mom has to carry him outside. Talk about a toddler temper tantrum!

Do dogs really need clothes?

Louie's mom's sentiment was great: to make sure her fur baby didn't freeze. However, many viewers in the comments seemed to be on Louie's side. One joked that Louie's already basically "wearing a fleece," referencing his long, natural coat. Another shared that their pup is the same way and "hates wearing anything heavier than a T-shirt." So, do dogs like Louie need coats in the cold, or are their natural coats enough?

While some canines thrive in cold weather, a dog's small size, shorter fur, and older age can all affect how it feels in the cold. Sweaters and coats are a great option for dogs who show signs of being cold, like slowing down outside, burrowing for warmth, shivering, or having cold ears.

How clothes make your dog feel is also important. While some puppers love a nice outfit, others may not like them so much. Make sure to pay attention to signs your dog is stressed, like whining, avoidant behavior, and uncomfortable posture (see: Louie's refusal to move). If your fido seems uncomfortable, consider whether they could do without that extra layer, and be sure to keep an eye out for any change in behavior.
