Cavapoo Was Supposed To Help Mom 'Stay More Active' But Has Other Plans

Some people adopt a dog with grand visions of getting fit and being active together, going on long walks or runs daily with the animal, but reality doesn't always live up to expectations. In an entertaining TikTok video with text overlaid that reads "getting a dog will help me stay more active..." — which has been watched more than 303,000 times — Benji the cavapoo snoozes in various locations around the house throughout the day. The video is captioned, "Only awake to eat."

Fellow dog owners recounted their similar experiences with pups who have schedules jam-packed with napping, snoozing, resting, and sleeping. "Ha! I have a cavapoo just like this. From approximately 7-8:30 is prime play run around [like] a crazy man time. The rest of the time...sleep," one wrote. Another shared, "Literally my dog and then she look at me crazy when I get her harness," to which one netizen added, "Mine even walks back to her bed once I put the harness on."

How much sleep do most dogs need?

Anyone who's ever watched their dog nap for hour upon hour may find themselves wondering if their dog is happy sleeping all day. The answer to that question will differ based on the animal's breed, age, and general health and fitness.

A healthy adult dog usually sleeps around 12 to 16 hours each day. Senior dogs may require more sleep than that, as they deal with the normal aches and pains associated with aging, and puppies might snooze for up to 20 hours per day during major growth cycles. Working dogs such as Labrador retrievers and cocker spaniels usually require less sleep, while very big dogs and very small dogs are often content to lounge around in bed for long stretches of time. If you're worried about the amount of time your own precious pup spends asleep, it's worth a visit to a veterinarian for a checkup. However, one netizen commented on the TikTok video, "I took mine to the vet and they just said he's lazy." Benji's owner responded, "LOLLL same."
