Sally Field's Cavapoo Adorably Mimics Her Expressions As She Sits For An Interview

It's a common belief that married couples start to look like each other at a certain point. Some folks also believe that pets and their owners resemble one another. Anyone who watches a charming YouTube Short featuring Sally Field and her dog can't help but notice that the Oscar-winning actress and her sweet cavapoo, Dash, wear similar facial expressions throughout.

In the clip, Field is promoting her new Netflix film, "Remarkably Bright Creatures" — based on the popular 2022 novel by Shelby Van Pelt — while Dash sits on her lap and mimics her wide-eyed expression. Field talks about how her "little pandemic dog" has been a support for her, particularly after the devastating California wildfires of January 2025 that destroyed some of her neighbors' homes. She says, with a twinkle in her eye, "Of course, he's a support. He listens to everything I say and complain about, and he hardly ever reveals the things that I've said."

One viewer noted, "OMG!! They resemble each other!! ❤❤" Another commented, "It's funny how she and her dog are sharing the exact same disconcerted expression. 😊"

Do pets resemble their owners?

Various studies have shown that owners and their pets look like each other (via BBC). One theory for this phenomenon is that we humans unconsciously choose our pets similar to how we select our friends and partners, looking for traits similar to our own, which feel familiar and comfortable. Plus, the longer an owner lives with a specific pet, the more that the pair's personality traits sync up. As a simple example, consider an extroverted person who adopts a friendly dog, and as the years pass, the pair become even more likely to greet every person and pooch they meet on their daily walks.

Whether or not you believe that dogs and cats look like their owners, there's no denying that Sally Field is utterly devoted to her soul pet, Dash. In fact, it was her bond with the cavapoo that inspired her to accept the role in "Remarkably Bright Creatures," playing Tova, a character who forms a friendship with an octopus. Field told USA Today that her dog "changed me because I never had a real, profound connection with a creature. So this story really linked to that."
