Cat Gets A New Feline Sibling & The Pair Are 'Obsessed With Each Other'

Popular culture often portrays cats as solitary creatures who don't need or want the companionship of other animals, as opposed to dogs, who seem most content living in packs. The truth is, some cats do, indeed, get along well with other kitties, forming deep and lasting bonds that are touching to witness.

In an uplifting TikTok video captioned "best friends," which has been viewed more than 23,000 times, a gray kitty named Acorn and a calico cat named Jovie cuddle together in a sunny spot, then Acorn grooms Jovie in the most adorable fashion. Text overlaid on the video reads, "I adopted a cat for my cat and now they're obsessed with each other."

Viewers of the video instantly fell in love with the fuzzy friends. "I love it when cats become bffs," one wrote, and another commented, "Besties 😭🥰 they're so cute 🫶🏻." One netizen shared a description of a feline friendship that came about after a heartbreaking loss: "We adopted a kitten for our senior cat after our soul cat crossed the rainbow bridge. It's been bittersweet but curative for our family."

Should you adopt a second cat?

If you're wondering whether you should get a second cat, the first thing to consider is your own cat's age. Younger cats tend to adapt better than older felines when additional pets are added to the household. Another thing to think about is your cat's personal history. If your cat is naturally timid or has experienced major trauma at some point, then the animal might not adjust well to a new pet. Try to recall your cat's behavior upon spotting another cat out the window. Did your cat seem calm and interested, or upset and aggressive?

Equally important is the time that you have available to devote to adding a second cat to your home. It can take weeks or months of gradual introductions before two cats grow to like (or even just tolerate) each other. From a purely practical standpoint, your home needs to be large enough to accommodate the additional cat, along with necessary items such as a second litter box and a second food dish. If you do decide to bring home a second fur baby, know that with some planning, a lot of patience, and a little bit of luck, you could end up with an endearing pair of besties just like Acorn and Jovie.
