Naughty Pug Gets Caught Messing Up Mom's Plants And Makes A Run For It

Enjoying the outdoors with a good dog and your own plants is one of life's calmer pleasures. Somebody just forgot to tell Gnocchi! In this TikTok video, his human walks outside and finds a bit of chaos: a knocked-over plant tray, soil dirtying cobblestones, and Gnocchi standing still, one paw resting on another tray. The dog looks far less flustered than the human, who excitedly states, "You are not for real right now...." She needs a moment just to take in what's happened to her seedlings — but she's not going to get it, however.

A few seconds after coming outside, the woman jokingly calls Gnocchi "bad," and he instantly decides to live up to his defiant reputation. Instead of raising his paw and giving up the tray, he latches onto it with his teeth and sprints away, ignoring commands to give it back.

When verbal commands fail, the woman switches to bribery. First, she squeezes her fingers together and offers Gnocchi a pretend treat to trade for the tray. The little pug is no fool, though, and after pausing to consider the false nibble, he darts off again with his prize. So, the woman reaches down and pretends to grab another fake treat. This time, the deception works, and Gnocchi drops to the tray and jumps for the goody.

Many dogs steal simply for entertainment

For dogs, stealing can be a game. You might see your pup chewing on clothes and relishing the soft texture, or burying its face in a smelly shoe before running away with it. Other dogs steal just to get a human to chase them. These furry thieves don't care about what they steal as much as what reaction they get. They want you to give chase and try to catch them.

The keep-away game is adorable until your dog steals something dangerous or that you don't want destroyed. If your pup is prone to stealing and you want to curb the behavior, try dog-proofing your home. For example, you could put your shoes in a hanging rack and keep dirty clothes in a hamper. If the theft has already occurred, and you want the dog to drop the banned object right away, try not to give chase. Instead, calmly offer to trade the object for a treat or toy.
