Cat Demands Attention From Mom & Proves Feline Affection Is Just As Strong As Dogs' Love

There's a common perception that dogs are affectionate and cats are aloof. But anyone who has ever been utterly besotted with a kitty knows that cats can be just as loving and completely devoted to their favorite humans. Need proof? In a sweet TikTok video that has been viewed more than 7.4 million times and racked up over 2.1 million likes, a tabby cat named Simon stares determinedly at his owner, meowing and reaching out a paw a few times.

Viewers could feel the affection emanating from Simon. "Those are eyes of love," wrote one. Another stated, "To be loved and chosen by a cat is the best love anyone could ever have." Many commenters debated the love languages of dogs versus cats. "Dogs give their love freely, a [cat's] love is earned," wrote one person, to which Simon's owner responded, "I agree in most cases, but not this guy[. Simon] loves anyone and everyone he meets. He does not discriminate for cuddles."

How do cats convey affection?

Canine body language is often straightforward for humans to decipher, given dogs' tendency for big, boisterous actions. As one netizen wrote, "I'm here to argue that dogs don't love like cats do[. Dogs] are just excitable[, but when] a cat loves[,] it LOVES." Feline body language tends to be more subtle and harder for humans to figure out.

To demonstrate love, a cat might steal your pillow at night and snuggle in close. A cat saying "I miss you" might rub its head on you and cuddle with you, but it might also simply sit in the same room as you. A cat trying to say "thank you" might lick you or knead you, but it might also present you with a dead critter or stick its derriere directly in your face. As one viewer of the TikTok video commented, "Cats don't love you like dogs do. And that's okay because the way cats love is equally as valid and equally as deep. They're just different animals with different tendencies!"
