Golden Retriever Gets Her Very Own Kitten And They Already Snuggle Like 'Love Bugs'

Cuddling with a warm, furry creature is incredibly relaxing — and many dogs agree! Lola, a golden retriever, discovered the joys of snuggling when her human gave her a kitten. The tiny feline was called Sterling until a closer examination revealed that "he" was actually a spunky girl, and her name was switched to Fiona. A TikTok video shows the animals lying back-to-back in bed, Lola's golden fur mingling with Fiona's soft white fluff.

Lola previously lived with another adored cat that passed away. The loss left the golden retriever without a reliable friend to romp and play with. She was still showered with love from her people, but that's not quite the same as having a four-legged buddy that's equally unconcerned about dirt or making a mess. Lola and Fiona are the perfect pair because their lives revolve around fun, food, and sleep. They're like twins that happen to be from two different species. A commenter referred to Lola and Fiona as the "sweetest love bugs."

Some dogs and cats form surprisingly close bonds

Seeing a dog-and-cat duo that clearly loves each other might be a little surprising. After all, the phrase "fighting like cats and dogs" doesn't exactly conjure up an image of peaceful friendship. Left to their own devices, prey-driven dogs tend to chase cats and can cause real harm. However, Lola and Fiona prove that you're not doomed to choose between being a dog or a cat lover. You can happily live with both animals if you're smart with your introductions and pay attention to prey-driven tendencies.

Many dog breeds often naturally get along well with cats, such as golden retrievers, bulldogs, and boxers. You want a pup that can be calm around small animals and not automatically see them as prey. The dogs that usually don't get along with cats are the ones that can't get over these hurdles. Watch out for growls, staring, and stiff body language. Pups that exhibit this behavior can still potentially fall in love with a meowing cutie, or they might just see all cats as four-legged toys to run after.
