German Shepherd Puppy Barking At Inanimate Object Is 'Standing On Business'

It's no secret that German shepherds make excellent guard dogs. In an adorable TikTok video that's been viewed more than 129,000 times, a sweet German shepherd puppy named Creed lives up to the noble German shepherd reputation. As one of the smartest dog breeds and also one of the strongest dog breeds in the world, GSDs have long been used by the police and military to guard, protect, and perform search-and-rescue tasks.

Creed is small in stature, but he acts big when he perceives a threat. "First time hearing little man bark...wait until you see what did it for him," is written across the video, which is captioned, "Creed standing on business – No littering on our watch!" Spoiler alert: The source of all the doggy drama is a paper bag.

"How dare there be a paper sack in his kingdom," wrote one viewer. Another joked, "In his defense, that is a pretty sketchy looking paper bag. Well done boy 👏🐕💙." One netizen shared, "🤣🤣🤣 Mine still barks at bags he's 16 months old."

Why a puppy might bark at a paper bag

As pack animals, dogs work together to protect the group from anything that might hurt them. When puppies see new items for the first time, their first inclination is to warn the rest of the pack about this potential threat by barking — but some dogs never seem to grow out of this behavior, no matter how familiar the items become over time.

"My gsd boofs at boxes. He's 5 😜 they're so funny," wrote one netizen, and another commented, "Mine hates cardboard boxes, paper towel tubes and when the coffeemaker lid is open." Other people shared stories of their pooches barking at leaves, chairs, decorations, balloons, tires, plastic bags, and garbage cans, and one person revealed, "Mine found his bark.... Because of a carrot 🥕 lol."
