Donkey On The Loose Plunges Arkansas Street Into Total Chaos

Some pets are just really good escape artists! This pet donkey's escape caused total chaos in his town, and it's definitely a spectacle. But did he make it back home?

This donkey sure loved an adventure, at least according to a Facebook clip one viewer deemed worthy of "America's Funniest Home Videos." That person, along with over 80,000 others, witnessed this lone donkey wreaking havoc on the streets of Morrilton, Arkansas, by simply...roaming around. The donkey started out pretty calm, despite being in the middle of a busy street with multiple law enforcement vehicles.

It's not until a man left his car to wrangle him that the donkey ran out of the street and off into a neighboring parking lot. There's a bit of speculation on how the donkey escaped, or why, but luckily, The Voice of Morrilton reported that this "escape artist" had been returned to his owner, safe and sound. That's great news!

That roaming donkey was so cute, it might make you wish you lived on a farm. The good news is, you may not have to live on a farm to have a pet donkey! Though farm animals, donkeys are known to thrive on smaller plots of land than other livestock. Each donkey needs a minimum of one acre of land to graze. Since they're such social creatures, though, it's best to have at least two.

Donkeys come in three sizes: miniature, standard, and mammoth, ranging from 200 to 1,200 pounds. The larger the donkey, the more space it will need. Natural grazers, these cuties are drawn to grasses and other high-fiber plants in the wild. Allowing your donkey to mirror their natural diet with barley straw and grass hay, on a restricted basis, is a good way to protect them from overeating. They can also eat various fruits like apples, pears, raspberries and bananas in small amounts. Oh, and remember: Jacks and Jennys (male and female donkeys) need access to fresh and clean water at all times.
