Mini Dachshund's First Time Swimming In The Pool Definitely Doesn't Go As Planned

Many of us love witnessing our fur baby's many firsts. Teaching them their first trick, taking them on their first play date, and even witnessing our dog's joy over their first absolute favorite toy can be such a delight. Sometimes, that first doesn't go as smoothly, like in one now popular TikTok video in which a mini dachshund's swim attempt doesn't go as planned.

Kinder Bueno is a mini dapple dachshund who had the bold idea to take a nice swim. The problem? Kinder's never swam before, and he's apparently not too great at it. The 12-second clip starts with a super-excited Kinder running with a stick in his mouth on his way to jumping in the pool, but it ends with poor little scared Kinder holding onto his dog mom for dear life.

Little Kinder didn't know that doxies, with their tiny little legs and barrel bodies, aren't particularly built to be natural swimmers. Plenty of viewers sounded off in the comments about their dachshund's swim challenges, too. "My sausage won't even step in a puddle," joked one commenter. Luckily, mini dachshunds can thrive and even have fun in the water with a life jacket to offer a little extra support.

Kinder's one super cute mini dachshund, and his aquatic adventure is surely one for the books! It may make you wonder, however; might a standard or Kaninchen dachshund likely react the same way? Let's break down the differences between the different kinds of dachshunds, and discover what they all have in common.

The beloved wiener dog is quite possibly one of the cutest small dog breeds around. Along with their signature hotdog bodies and short legs, all dachshunds can have smooth, long hair, or wirehair, and come in a variety of colors and patterns. Another thing all dachshunds are known for? Their lively personalities! Common personality traits of dachshunds include playfulness and feistiness, likely due to their tough and stubborn badger hunter ancestors. However, mini doxies are said to be even more spunky than their standard counterparts.

The main (and possibly only) difference between a Kaninchen, a miniature dachshund, or a standard dachshund is its size. Kaninchen means "rabbit" in German, so Kaninchen dachshunds are essentially rabbit-sized dachshunds. While not recognized by the AKC, they are recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale or World Canine Federation (FCI). These cuties weigh no more than 3.5 kg (7.7 pounds), versus a mini dachshund's 11 pounds. Standard dachshunds, on the other hand, can weigh up to 32 pounds. That said, whether you want a small or even tinier dachshund, you're in for a bundle of fun!
