Bagel the beagle may look like a pretty normal beagle at first glance. But after a day with her, you may be shocked when she doesn't "meow." That's because this canine has been heavily influenced by her cat foster siblings.
The 35-second clip shows Bagel doing several particularly feline activities, like grooming herself, playing with cat toys, loafing around, and even relaxing in a cat tree (and she looked purr-ty comfortable!). Bagel likes to clean her friends, too; something felines are known to do often for their loved ones. Bagel's so good at doing cat things that she's basically an honorary feline, and we love it!
How similar are cats and dogs?
If you've heard the phrase "fighting like cats and dogs," you likely know how these two species are considered opposites of each other. However, as shown in Bagel's video, cats and dogs living in harmony is totally possible. So exactly how opposite are they, and how similar?
Just like cats have their own quirks, dogs do too. Dogs are known for chasing their tails or howling like their wolf ancestors — two things you likely won't see cats do. But perhaps the most significant difference between cats and dogs is how the two were domesticated. Dogs came from wolves up to 30,000 years ago. Often called "man's best friend," canines have developed a strong bond with humans as their fellow hunters, protectors, and guides. The generations-long human-dog bond can make canines a bit easier to train, as they're used to responding to us.
However, cats have a very different story, as they domesticated themselves! Modern house cats come from African wildcats and are said to have started staying indoors to catch rodents for food, something that was quite beneficial to humans. Cats today are notably a lot more independent than dogs because they've had far less need to bond with humans. However, that doesn't mean cats aren't social. Both cats and dogs are capable of developing strong bonds with humans and other animals, including each other.
