Bodycam Footage Captures Heartwarming Moment State Trooper Saves Abandoned Dog
Getting hauled away in a police car is a nightmare scenario for some, but for one friendly little puppy, it meant salvation. On August 23, 2026, an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper named John Kronander found a gray and white puppy abandoned at a highway rest stop. The puppy was alone, locked in a metal crate, with no food or water in sight despite the August heat. Footage taken from the trooper's bodycam and later shared on Facebook showed Kronander letting the puppy out of the cage, talking to the dog, playing with him, and eventually placing him in the patrol car (carefully tucking in his tail before closing the car door) to whisk the doggo away to the Medina County SPCA.
Viewers were quick to praise both the puppy and the officer. "When they ask 'Why do you like animals more than people,'" commented one viewer, and another wrote, "It's the best thing I've seen a cop do in a video in a long time. 50 points to Gryffindor." One netizen joked, "Dog was arrested for being too cute 😍," and another quipped, "Who's a good boy? Trooper Kronander!"
A new home for the abandoned puppy
The Medina County SPCA immediately posted on Facebook, asking for anyone with information about the incident to come forward. "This puppy was completely dependent on someone to provide for their safety and wellbeing. Instead, they were simply left there."
Later that same day, Kronander showed a photo of the rescue dog to sergeant Matthew Denton of the Medina County Sheriff's Office. Though Denton already had a dog, he was drawn to the friendly puppy, thought to be part pit bull and part Great Dane. Denton told the Washington Post that he recalls saying to Kronander, "That's a good-looking dog." Two weeks later, the sweet pupper was officially adopted by Denton and his wife and four children. In tribute to Kronander, the family named their new pet Trooper. The sweet pup is definitely one of those rescue pups who found their forever homes and made us cry happy tears.
