Dogs have many uses including a variety of jobs such as guarding, herding and hunting. But, one of the main things dogs offer people is companionship. The stress of a hard day can be melted away by the reception given by a loyal dog upon returning home. Certain breeds are especially affectionate and love nothing better than cuddling up to their owner.

Brittany Spaniel
The Brittany spaniel is a highly affectionate and gentle breed that enjoys spending time with its owners. It is a medium-sized dog with a soft, feathery, single-layer coat and floppy, heavily feathered ears. The breed's disposition is generally jolly and, as with all dogs, socialization and firm training from a young age will help it to be a well-behaved animal. It is a light-shedding breed, so cuddling up does not leave too much dog hair on clothes.

The Labrador retriever is likely the most loving dog breed, making friends with everyone, even other animals. It is highly intelligent, gentle and loving, and will show its affection readily. The dogs do shed seasonally, so pet hair on clothes is common.

The bearded collie is a big and lovable, long-haired dog that you just want to cuddle. Being such a friendly and gentle dog, it likely wouldn't mind if anyone did. It is a relaxed breed that shows deep affection to its owners and is rarely aggressive. The coat is long, thick and shaggy, but also sheds readily.

If a person can get her arms around one, a great Dane is more than willing to cuddle. It is often described as a gentle giant who loves its family and wants to be wherever they are. Danes love to jump up and put their paws around people's shoulders, but this should be discouraged because they are too big. The breed is gentle by nature but will defend its family courageously.
